That still wasn't the performance of a team that most probably have down for the autos

Don't wish to piss on the point but didn't we lose to Plymouth at home the first game of the 106 year?

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. I imagine Plymouth fans would be pretty offended with the comparison to MK Dons.

Do you think MK Dons will be finishing even close to 14th?

Not as offended as Wimbledon fans.

Oh FFS. My brain is broken with those two and it was late... damnit.

Absolutely dire game from what I saw, devoid of any quality. Very poor advertisement for L1.

And last season Birmingham looked nothing special in their opener against us but ultimately proved far too good for the division (even if you find that tainted by the budget involves).

Cardiff also getting a rude L1 awakening. Their Championship demise was very similar to ours, having circled the plug hole for several years of mediocrity. Looks like their return to L1 could start the same with a home loss to Posh.

I think it is wise to be sceptical about drawing strong conclusions from the first game of the season.

Teams are still settling – Players may not yet be fully fit, especially if they had limited pre-season minutes. New signings might not be fully integrated into the system.

Managers are experimenting – Early matches often involve tactical trials. Managers may try different lineups or formations that they later abandon.

Form fluctuates – A team can start poorly and finish strong (or vice versa). Many championship winning teams have stumbled early on but found rhythm later.

Unusual conditions – Opening day nerves

Sample size – One game is statistically insignificant over a 46 game season.
