i remember a lot of people saying this last season and we came within 90 minutes of the premier league and an fa cup semi final. it's a marathon not a sprint. too early to be critical.

Once again

Barnsley

• Yet to win in any competition this season, and lost the last three under Keith Hill.

• Won only one of their last nine Championship games.

• Drawn six of their last eight away league games, and without a win in 11, since the 2-0 victorious trip to Doncaster on 25 January.

It is too early to judge of course. But selling a 20+ goal a year striker and our captain and pocketing the cash don't really capture the imagination. Sorry to neg. If the remainder of the season shows us to be competitive then great. It's just that I can't see it right now against a team who has had an awful start to the season

I am not being "critical" as such, yes we got within 90 mins of the Premiership last year and since we have sold Mills and Long for about £9.5m and not as yet got acceptable fully signed replacements in, and we were a bit short on cover in various positions last year and are worse off in that way this year. Would never criticise McD he can only do his best with what he is allowed to keep.

yes and it's only half-time. we overachieved last season, we all know that, but there's no reason we can't do it again. having said that, forget the madness of that 8 match winning run at the end of the season we were a mid-table side. what's changed? we'll beat the teams we shouldn't and we'll lose to sides we shouldn't.

I've now had a reply from Reading Player. "We apologise that we are experiencing technical issues with the site, this is due to a system outage."

What they meant to say was "This is due to a poorly designed system."

And a terrible end to last season.

I will reserve judgement for a few more games, but any club that sells it's Captain and Leading Goalscorer and best player is going to go backwards so it would be wrong to expect anything other than a struggle this year.

Finally managed to sign up for reading Player - which has gone down just as the second penalty was awarded.
