leon Exactly, no point wasting 3m on CMS. Doesn't mean we won't spend that in the future.

agreed. The fact we could have gone for them is so encouraging. If we get promoted I wonder what calibre of player we will be dealing with.

Is it weird if I do not really want us to get promoted this season?

Reason being, I would like to see what MCD can do with some coin, and also - The team would be better built to face the Premier League...

I really don't see any problem at all with BM revealing some of the bids or discussions about targets which were either unsuccessful, inconclusive or proved too expensive. In fact I am puzzled why exactly anyone would be pissed off about this...why the need for secrecy? There's already too much of it in Britain, although that, of course, is another subject entirely.

LoyalRoyalFan Anyone else slightly annoyed that McDermott has come out in public and said this?

Yes. Yes I am. It's a complete u turn and I don't like it. I don't want us to be the flash twat at the bar who can't get served.

Regardless of this, why would he go for Mackail Smith and be surprised at the expense? He was never gonna be cheaper than what BHA paid for him.

have to say I agree, it's not the way we go about things. I suspect Brighton were asking for a silly amount - so BM said shove it. Still, we shouldn't be talking about it.

If I'd only read the Sky report then maybe I'd be a little bit concerned, but read the article on the OS which actually quotes McD and it's obvious that there's some very lazy journalism going on at Sky, implying that we were serious about all four...

He confirms that we discussed Bridge with City, paying "a fraction of his wages" and that they spoke to Andrews.

All he says about CMS is that they "investigated" him - and that Maynard went to the PL.

I suspect they are no different to many clubs, start the window with a huge list of possibilities, and gradually narrow it down based on whether the player fits the team, our budget, whether they want to come etc.

On that basis I'm not especially worried....

1. Money injection will mean - at least initially - the media take more interest
2. Any interest in players in the Premiership - particularly names - will make knowledge of any dealings more "leaky"
3. Going to be a very interesting and exciting summer this year, if you're a Reading fan, irrespective of the division we'll be in next year.

This really is a whole new era for Reading Football Club. We are now getting rejected by a completely different class of player. It'll be exciting to see who we fail to sign in the summer.

We almost signed Cahill and Lescott a few years ago. Never believed how genuine the bids were.

If we went in for Bridge, why didn't we just go in for Bertrand instead?

Scott Brown who went to Rangers was another one me missed out on. IMO we would have stayed up had he come to us.

He needs to get out of there IMO. Wouldn't surprise me if the play Bosingwa or Luiz at LB tomorrow ahead of him.

Hammond 'How much do you want for Lescott'
'6million'
'Ok, well we offer 2mill, with 1 mill of that dependant on Lescott playing for Belgium more than 208 times'

i seem to remember we were linked with him and could have matched bolton's offer but coppell was happy with what we had. or that was the line that came out of the club. at that time we had a broken sonko wasn't the same as before that knee injury, and a mad man in andre bikey. bad bad decision that one.

Can someone take Test icicles to Rangers V Celtic and video him asking a Gers fan how Scott Brown is doing for them. That will a Youtube video not to miss.

With the new money available there should be some really decent players turning us down this summer. As I understand, Cameron Jerome, Jermain Penant and David Nugent are already planning to reject offers from Reading if asked. However, Noel Chance is expected to sign from the Kilkenny Clover Chasers for £50k.
