The problem is we're actually getting worse not better & we are freefalling down the table - even with players now coming back from injury.

I would love it if we got better - everyone would as it's been truly awful. No one is relishing us do badly! I dread going to football now & I've never felt like that before. It's worse than it was under Rodgers......much much worse.

The irony of it all is that if we'd lost a load of cracking games 4-3 or whatever people wouldn't be moaning about being 15th because they'd been entertained but they haven't. The football is just coma inducing rubbish.

He has lost the dressing room now by the sounds of it so I reckon he's a dead man walking. That team will shoot up the league & might even have a squeak at top 6 if they get rid of the tw@t sooner rather than later.

AirRaidSiren Some of our fan base just seem to want instant success since our 05/06 season.

I think this statement is hugely unfair. The fans have been patient. I'd go as far as to say almost saint like! They have for some strange reason even continued to sing Nigel's name to attempt to back him. I used to join in but I reached my tipping point quite a few games ago.

What you've said there just isn't true mate. Honestly we are bloody awful. Get yourself down to a home game & see the damage this fella has done....

People accept we won't get promoted absolutely they do. What we are seeing is epic shitness of the highest order though & it isn't acceptable with the players we have.

I think our fans are probably some of the most patient fans in the country TBH. He's had the job almost 2 years now & the apathy surrounding him & the club grows by the day. He is doing real damage now IMO.

Ok, fair point.

I just think sacking a manager because of a few bad results is so cliche these days.

My point stands though, we are 15th and according to you and some others, we are playing awful. What if we started playing better? Not a bad position to be in, eh?

There are teams playing far worse than us, judging by the table positions.

A few bad results? Its shocking. We were lucky it was only 2-1 at Cardiff. And its been like that all season. And for major parts last season. How Pearce and Gunter are picked is mystifying. Pearce looks fat, clumsy and slow. Gunter, well let's not go there. Adkins lost my support after the Charlton game. We are better than this.

Every team has a bad patch during the season. Come January and we are stlll free falling, then id worry.

I'm not trying to pick an argument or be positive for the sake of it, im just not panicking at the moment. Hopefully we will pick up morale and points.

I do think we lack leadership on the field. Gunter isnt captain material and as for Pearce, I cant answer why hes been so shit this season so far

Fair enough. I also think that the club will take action before it's too late anyway. Fully expect a new guy in for the Jan window now.

Given our woeful away form, I fully expect us to lose at Norwich next week. I'd expect Birmingham, Rotherham and Bolton all to win, and Brighton and Fulham play each other too. If we do lose next week I wouldn't be surprised to see us drop 4 places at least.

The Bolton and Birmingham games on 6th/13th December are going to be huge I think. They might just be make or break for Adkins. If we win them we might continue as we are - inconsistent and frustrating to watch, but not in a full-on relegation battle. However, the way things are going I wouldn't rule us out being in the relegation zone on Christmas day.

Christ, Floyd you're becoming more tedious every year. If you don't want to support Reading anymore then I'm not sure why you don't just fuck off tbh. Oh, you have, you just need to keep telling us about it....

I can't be arsed to comment on your risible attempt at humour relating to Whelan.

I think I've made it clear in the past that I thought the decision to get rid of Brian was wrong. I can't warm to Adkins. I also can't warm to whinging bastards that are on here every fucking day moaning about stuff.

Finally, booing Le Fondre... well, that pretty much sums up the intelligence of some Reading fans.

While he doesn't do himself any favours, I'm inclined to give him more time. My justification for that view is simple - last season, with very few in the way of Adkins players, we struggled. Really struggled to create any meaningful chances in games, struggled to score goals. We had a forward line that wasn't mobile enough, imposing enough, and a midfield that produced static, turgidity game in game out. This season is different. I don't actually believe we are playing that badly, in fact the performances for me have actually been an improvement in some ways. For a start, Murray and Cox up front look like they can score (and hav3 done so). The midfield with Norwood's acquisition looks more dynamic and will only continue to improve with Williams gaining fitness and form. The defence, however, is the problem but is it all their fault? I have to say no. They've made regular errors that have cost us, but by the same token the balance and set up of the side leaves them horribly exposed. My belief is that things will improve with backing in January, and we just have to stick by him. It'll be difficult but with the key players coming back and gaining fitness and form I think results will improve. This was always going to be a mid table, rebuilding season. It seems to me that those who were in agreement with that view in preseason are now the key protagonists in wanting Adkins out when the midtable season starts to materialise.

I respect both of you as posters on the team board (AE is another matter  ) I was all for giving Adkins until Xmas but we appear to be on a downward spiral now, which for a team of players that we have is unacceptable. Sorry it is.

We're not playing with a team that has just been promoted from Div 1 with no money for decent wages. We are an established Championship team that two years ago was in the Premier League.

There's a lot of talk about the uncertainty last season and lack of funds. We played dreadful football with a team that was good enough to bounce back. We didn't. And now we're getting worse.

My concern is Adkins seems powerless to fix any of the problems we have and waiting until Xmas might be too late. If we haven't got any more points after Bolton game he's got to go.

AirRaidSiren Do i think Adkins is the right man? He was the best choice to come here at the time imo and i wont judge him until he has a full season with us.

Are we though?

L 0-1 Weds (13)
L 0-2 Derby - cup
D 3-3 Wolves (11)
D 0-0 Leeds (16)
L 1-3 Brentford (5)
L 0-3 Derby (1)

P6, W0, D2, L4, F4, A12, P2 - average position of opposition 8th.

L 0-3 Bournemouth (2)
W 3-0 Blackpool (24)
L 1-3 Blackburn (6)
W 3-0 Rotherham (22)
L 0-1 Charlton (9)
L 1-2 Cardiff (12)

P6, W2, D0, L4, F8, A9, P6 - average position of opposition 11th

It's far from smelling of roses and we've still got real problems. But we've doubled our goals for and clean sheets, tripled our points take and cut our goals against by a quarter. Our defence is still riddled with individual and collective errors, but has improved. We still seem to be creating chances. There are positives to take. Whether we can shift the balance to cutting out the errors and putting away the chances is a fine line and we've seen our team perform abjectly before and then go on great runs. I don't think we can expect that, but I also don't think it's going to stay this bad.

We can't afford to keep on like this too much longer, but we're still where most people seemed to expect us to be. I think we just started better and then things went south, when the opposite was expected. We do now actually have some of our stars back from injury.

Our position is precarious, but we're no where near doomed. At least we're beating the teams below us like Rotherham and Blackpool. Extend that up the league a little more and it'll see us safe. And safe is all that matters this season.

First 7 games: 13 points
Next 11 games: 8 points

Are we getting worse: Yes

We are 9 points off the top 6.
And 3 points off the bottom 3.
That's not safe mid-table. That's one result away from the relegation zone.

Rodgers was sacked after 21 games. After 19 games he had 20 points. After 19 games Adkins will be on 21.
Time to go.

Well if you want to compare to the start of the season and look on a larger scale, the answer is obviously yes.
