And the only reason it remains in our hands is because we are still to play one of the teams immediately above us, so can deprive them of points. Give it another couple of games of us losing and Huddersfield picking something up and that will no longer be true and we'll be relying on the failure of others.

Magic number now down to 14 (or 13 given our less rubbish GD over QPR).

As long as QPR keep losing..............

Its 12, if we win our last 4 we finish above Blackpool, Wigan and Hudds, given we play them.

Thought so. It's back in our hands which feels nice although I don't expect us to win more than 2 of the last 4

It's never been out of our hands thanks to the final day against Huddersfield. Match or better their results til then and beat them and we were always safe.

Well, you had a point for a while, but that last sentence is incorrect.

In what way. They're 1 point ahead of us. On Friday it was 2. We only ever needed to stay in touch and beat them, so it was always in our hands.

Unless you're being pedantic about bettering their results making us safe earlier. Or going down some multiple loses and Blackpool or Wigan over take us and them niche scenario. The point is, it's never not been in our hands.

It may be pedantic or niche ( eh?) but that sentence is just not true

I don't think Huddersfield are our get out of jail free card; QPR are.

I believe that we can get to a position where we are 3 points clear of them by the last game with a superior GD.

Probably more likely as I think much harder to match Huddersfield's results.

But it's Huddersfield that currently puts it in our hands. QPR are ahead of us and we don't get to play them again.

I'll be intrigued to see how Huddersfield go now the Warnock bounce seems to have lost headway.

After 22 mins v Blackburn they were looking like they would comfortably win their 5th on the bounce and essentially be out of the relegation conversation - since that moment - they have shipped 3 without scoring and if they lose tomorrow night, it's not beyond the realms that they could find themselves back in the bottom 3 - which could be massively deflating, or kick them on again.

After Sunderland - they have a massive game against Cardiff and then have to play Sheff Utd in the midweek before our game against them.

Yeah I'm still not convinced by Huddersfield either, it feels like their good run of form has come 3/4 games too early. They might only need 1 win to survive, but they'll be very lucky if that's all they need. 1 win between now and the end of the season would mean 1 win in 7, which wouldn't be a surprise for a team in their position.

Well - it's was always a bit of an abstract way of thinking of relegation - but at least it gave us an indication of how we were doing.

Now the only thing that matters is our relative results compared to a 2-3 teams around us.
