Can't understand the hostility to Long here. He had a great spell last year, coinciding with our return to form and rise up the table.

everyone has their hate players, and for a few reasosns long is that for many people
i guess its his boyish good looks, reputation as a ladys man, ability to play the guitar, and the fact that he didnt start playing football till his late teens.

 Ask Magwers, It's more his gap toothed smile and running style for him!!

I'm not a big fan of Long, mainly because he isn't very good at football. Works hard most of the time scores a few goals here and there just nowhere near consistent enough for a supposedly top end of the championship side. Wasn't handled very well in his early days to be fair, soon as Reading went up he should have been out on loan somewhere. No doubts he'll be absolute pigswill until new years day where as ever he somehow gets loads better in the 2nd half of the season and gets a new 3 year contract.

I thought Long did improve last year and was the one striker who could consistently play up front on his own - BUT it seems that he will never sore loads of goals. Now Rasiak has gone Long is our one proven player in this position. Hunt normally played as one of a front two before he was injured so we don't know if he can play the single striker role yet. Hopefully he can.

Terminal Boardom
Stranded Surely that's the point - I'm not advocating selling Long -but if his sale allowed us to purchase a much needed CB, which in turn helped us move from being an average Championship side to a better than average one - I'd be happy.

I would rather sell Howard than anyone else. What is our choice up front? I would say that at best it is limited. Long is already carrying an injury which leaves us with Hunt - who is on his way back from a long injury, Church and Rasiak in addition to some very raw youngsters. What hapens if Long is sold then Hunt suffers another setback? I can imagine the multitude of Nobbrs screaming that we should get another forward in on loan. Where are we overloaded? Midfield. Lose one of our central ones if we have to.

currently the only CM we have capable of playing the ball on the deck, and defending a bit, both in the same game

If it was up to me I would sell some of the regular Hobnob posters to another club.

After all we have the best informed and most intelligent football experts amongst our posters. The likes of TB, Ideal, AP, Floyd, Royalee etc would be of such a great benefit to any club that could afford their collective abilities that a price of a million or two would seem only fair.

Perhaps then we could go out and buy a CB now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Btw, with Rasiak gone, Long can't go now.

Fed has to go.

specialjon Clearly everyone knows that we need another center back (or for mills or Ivar to be injured/suspended all the time) so out of our real saleable assests McAnuff, Kebe and the sig who would you sell?

I would go with McAnuff and try and squeeze every penny out QPR as I could.

If it came to it that we'd have to sell a someone from our already stupidly depleted squad just in order to prevent an old midfielder being forced to be out of his depth in defence alongside a mediocre-at-best youngster then it's a no brainer - sell the whole board for anything we can get.

I was thinking along the same lines but IIRC, hasn't he already sold that particular work of art for a nice little profit?

Would you honestly mind if any of them went?

Ivar / Armstrong - are injured the majority of the time (one has lost all pace and is a risk at this level).
Cummings / Long - have failed to live up to their supposed potential.
Fed / Howard - we have better youngsters pushing through on a lot less wages!

Felt that they were the ones who would leave us in the least sh*t if shipped out. Perhaps I have misread their worth!

agreed, the only player on our team with brains

as for Long, we might as well borrow a couple of lads off London Irish and get them to charge around up top. Long is seriosuly deficient as a footballer, you'd laugh at his touch if he was playing non-league football.
