Snowball "I shall award Churchy the assists and p!ss a few people off."

Seems like it's working...

If you do stats just to piss people off then go ahead. Generally that isn't the reason people compile statistics.

Having slowed the footage down several times I can conclude that yes the shot took a deflection however it was the slightest of touches and it was the Brighton defender who got the touch.. Simon Church never got the touch.

That's settled that then ;-)

Different subject - I only saw the highlights - Kebe seemed to be back in top form, was that a fair reflection ?

Having slowed the footage down, I thought it was a noticeable deflection
which helped make the keeper dive under the ball, and personally
I think it was Church's touch.

Perhaps that's why the OS said Church tried to claim the goal.

Greer was in the local Brighton paper on Tuesday confirming it was him who the ball came off.

It's unusual for any defender to admit it's an own goal so no reason to disbelieve it - particularly an ex-Swinedon player!

No damn it! The sky is red!!!!It's a political conspiracy to deprive Church of goals and give them to Jobi so Prince Phillip can steal Church's heart and take over the world!!!!!!

Don't understand why he would do that because I was directly in line with McAnuff's original shot and it Quite Clearly hit Church on the top of the head and this caused the keeper to misjudge the flight of the ball. Plus as they came off at half-time Hunty waited for Church by the tunnel and patted him on top of of the head and pointed a finger into his chest as much as to say "that was your goal"...

So there.

lol- at a million ,miles an hour with two players so close together its impossible to believe th eevidence of your own eyes
hence why eye witnesses are so unreliable- see hundreds of experiments that prove it to be so
if a defender admits it, thats what happened.
the end

The OS also thought Church had hit, and it clearly says "McAnuff pulled rank" to claim it.

Also

READING FC striker Simon Church has called on his side to maintain their spot in the Championship play-offs after beating Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 on Boxing Day.

Two goals from Jobi McAnuff - one of which hit Church on the way into the net - and a late own goal helped Royals record their third successive league victory.

Is that last quote from one of our local rags? If so I think you've just quoted two of the most unreliable sources going. Throw in a bit of footballtransfers.net and wikipedia and you've got the set!

Fwiw in the official football league stats they've given Church the goal. For the original shot McAnuff was given 3/4s of an assist while Church and the defender were both credited with 1/8th of an assist.

Back home with the article in front of me:

Debate was raging even after the final whistle over the ownership of the second goal. Job McAnuff was widely credited with the strike although his shot clearly deflected in off a head, possibly that of team mate Simon Church. Home manager Brian McDermott refused to be drawn into debate but Gordon Greer added another angle. The Albion skipper said: "It hit my head actually. I just tried to get something on it to take it over".

WTF?!

He was less interested than I was in the second half, just couldn't be oxf*rd to do anything at all. Absolute shocker of a half - why BMc didn't sub him only he knows.
