MmmMonsterMunch Just watching it now. He comes across as a genuine and gracious guy - no surprises there.

Lets be honest though - Reading taking a punt on their chief scout has resulted in Brian getting more exposure and money than he ever could have dreamed of 4 years ago.

His reputation remains intact and he will very quickly secure another championship job - something which he wouldn't have got without us so it's not all bad for him. His stock is very high & I'm sure he's eternally grateful to RFC for that.

Well said MMMMM :!:

Big Ern Yes he is a very nice person, but then again so was Mother Teresa.

In the sense that she didn't prescribe painkillers as 'suffering brings you closer to Jesus'?

Well, as a Reading supporter I have never felt so close to Jesus than I have this season.

DOYLERSAROYALER Just said in hindsight he wish he'd been stronger and been more active in the transfer market in the summer ....

Quoted for melonhead.

tbf - the inclusion of the stronger bit says to me, hes thinkling he should have pressed anton for more money rather than go along with it.
so that backs my view, rather than not

The whole scenario smacks of inexperience at both managerial and ownership level.

if you look for it hard enough

personally i think we made a decision in the summer, that we wouldnt harm the club by overspending, and to give the squad a chance.
if the sunderland game hadnt been moved, if roberts, kebe, etc hadnt got injured, ifspurs had signed their striker and wed broiught gylfi home, it may well have just come off.
it didnt though. oh well

St. Brynjar
Royal Lady I found it more interesting that he thought AZ wanted to see him "to discuss the team for Man Utd and who they'd be playing" - alluding to the fact that AZ gets rather too involved for my personal liking - why should a chairman need to "discuss" this with a manager - it must have happened previously if that's what McD thought the meeting was about.

I thought he came across brilliantly - bit self deprecating, genuine bloke and I still think there should have been more of a tribute to him by the club for his 13 years of service to it.

Didn't even get the chance to say goodbye to the players.

Good luck McD - whoever gets you next will be very, very lucky indeed.

It's well documented that Anton has a hands on approach that Brian liked - they always chatted about the team and new signings, Anton came to Brian with ideas about which players to sign etc.

Really? I'd have put up with that for about a week and then given him Hammond's number.

Come on brendy. Seriously, it's ok. Brian will be alright.

To deny that the inexperience of McDermott, the owners, the club or whatever came to the fore this season is ridiculous.

youre ridiculous

couldnt give a toss about brian tbf. hes gone.
just happen to think that we made decisions, based on good thought processes, and many correct assumptions(as well as some incorrect ones).
it hasnt worked out. but it may have done if things had gone differently.

someone needs to go down. and the fact we could be down with QPR and sunderland show that spening 40 million in the summer may still not have made the difference.

as it is, i saw some good games, and enjoyed the odd time we pulled a result out of the bag on pure determination Vs some of the best sides in the world.
we go down, we move on. we go again

nigel adkins barmy armty etc

Just watched the video and fair play to him, obvious to anyone he is disappointed. Will go down in my mind as a RFC legend.

I still think he uses furniture polish on his head

Cureton's Volley Gutting to watch.... our club really is a bit shit in every way really

Why. Manager who made a complete balls up of the season in being fired shock. Yes he is a very nice person, but then again so was Mother Teresa. I doubt she would have hacked it I'm the Prem.

Coppell didn't get sacked when he didn't buy anyone second season. Though perhaps he wasn't told to spend money.

Hope Brian does get a job managing again soon. Though I have a bad feeling he'll have to drop below the championship. He shouldnt have to but his image just isn't very high.

IIRC the last time we got relegated it was a lot closer and it went to the last game of the season. This season, we have been practically down for the past month or so...certainly different circumstances.

Also different owners now with a different financial situation in terms of backing and the new Sky deal starting from next season.

I think it would be wrong to draw comparisons in the cases.

You never saw a team put out by Terry the Taxi or Tommy Burns?

No way....

He will be patient and pretty confident he would get first dibs on Championship job that comes his way albeit Leeds or Brighton

I'm not saying a new manager is bad. You just have to feel for him because he genuinely a really nice guy.

Bad time to be out of a job. Hardly any teams will sack their manager now and not many will do in the summer either. I think he might have to wait until October before he gets a sniff and then he could well be yesterday's man.
