We're taking the homeopathic approach to football planning. The weaker the squad becomes, the more effective we will be.However, with rumours of signings now realistically emerging I see Bet 365 is offering 20:1 for 1st with 1/4 for placing 2 and 3. Have just decided a modest E/W bet is worth it.

We won't finish outside the top 8, that's for sure.

Don't forget that 3 years ago Big Nige took his squad of league 1 misfits and pushed us right to the line for the championship title. He did it once and he'll do it again

Mid-table, unless we make 5-6 signings between now and the end of August. Though now that we have some clarity over ownership and funds could well be available now, I wouldn't bet against us making some good moves in the coming weeks. Instability behind the scenes had a big effect on the field, with us stabilised and with some signings we could still see a play-push, but at the moment it'd have to be mid table. Could all change by August 31st though.

Bottom half unless we make 2-3 "first team improving" signings.

Without wanting to sound too much like FS, the prognosis isn't good.

Now that we've sold our best forward, we've got the three worst type of forwards left. Blackman - a coward - only as good as those around him. Pogrebnyak - a forward who doesn't like to face goal and steadfastly refuses to act like the clubs highest earner and HRK - not really a forward and plays for his contract not his club. The fact that we are looking for Sharp - AGAIN - when his loan spell was bang average at best, well....

At the back, McCarthy is quite obviously our best player but one fat cross against his name is that he has let himself been drawn down to the level of the back four in front of them. The back four isn't that bad, tbh, though it really needs a killer signing at centre back for one of Pearce / Morrison to play along side. Our full backs are pretty decent, although Gunter has a heart the size of a peanut. But we don't know which centre back to sign if any.

We don't know if we have nothing, 1 million or 5 million to spend on a centre back because our chairman (who isn't really our chairman) is going into negotiations with 40 year old men and coming out of them with 70 year old women. This may not be sorted out soon as Im pretty sure SJM wants out so bad he'll sell to anybody at this stage - even the sort of people you wouldn't trust to look over your bags when you go to the toilets.

Our midfield is a shambles - long term injuries everywhere and STILL has Guthrie in it (lets face it, most championship clubs would have shipped him last year) - it SEEMS to have bags of talent, but still has nobody to play behind the strikers in the middle of the pitch. We could easily change the midfield from game to game. Our manager has ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what to do with this mess,

Saying that - there is a half decent first 11, or even first 14 in that squad - I just don't trust that we'll see it very often or that we'll make the right signings to augment it. We can probably get points in this division but never really compete at the sharp end. So Im going for 13th.

Ian Royal Mid-table mediocrity for the first time in about 15 years. Just the 5 or 6 years after Schards predicted it'd be all we'd have for the foreseeable.

I'll narrow it down to a slightly pessimistic 14th at this point.

7th. Brighton to score an extra time goal in the last match of the season to put them 6th and 1 point ahead.

It's certainly no '2014/15 fixtures'.

I have to say I have changed my mind about Nigel Adkins. I was no fan last season and thought we underperformed. However, I admire him for sticking with the club through all the turmoil this last summer and he seems to be committed to bringing the young players on.

It seems to me that we now have a huge rebuilding job that will take some years before we can compete again at the top of the Championship table. Personally I think we will do well to avoid relegation this season and so anything above the bottom three will be a success as far as I am concerned.

So I hope that nobbers will give the youngsters a chance this season and that we can at least build the beginnings of a new young and hungry team and to me Adkins is a good man to build that.

Very magnanimous of you andrew1957 - what was the turning point for you re Adkins, can you point to a specific interview for example where you suddenly thought "You know what, he's alright" :?:

Why are so many people unhappy with how we're doing, seeing as the majority are getting what they expected or better?
