I hope this doesn't mean that Sonko will actually stay and play.

It's a list of defenders Coppell's signed who haven't improved the side.

Duberry > Kromheer > Sonko on last season tbf. Also De La Cruz was a steady enough player whenever called upon. The others have been a waste of time.

De La Cruz had about 3 or 4 good games in a row after a woeful start and as for Duberry, I think the fact that we went down the season after we signed him and Stoke went up goes to show his worth.

Either way, the majority of Coppell's defenders signed have been crap.

Stoke had the best defensive record in the Championship when Duberry was their captain there. They just added goals to their game this season. To put the blame of relegation towards a centre half is a tad extreme. Especially one who wasn't even close to being our worst player last season. Duberry was better than Ivar and Sonko for me last season.

Well first of all, no it's not.

And secondly why take such a perpetually narrow minded line on why players are signed ?

Sodje - correct - but a punt
Halls - correct
De La Cruz - incorrect improved the squad and therefore the side, after a slightly slow start never put a foot wrong when given the chance
Duberry - incorrect - improved the squad and therefore the side. Never really got much chance to play with a mobile partner as far as I remember but still performed consistantly well given the defence.
Bennett - we'll see this season but probably correct
Golborne - technically correct, but hardly signed with the purpose of improving the side.

I'll raise you Ingimarsson, Bikey and Sonko all of which improved our team when bought. That full back he brought in gave us much stronger depth as well, which I consider improving the side... his name slips my mind right now. Went to Saints and possibly retired recently?

I'll give you Mate - obviously Coppell should have known he'd get an injury that would wreck his career.

The common theme amongst that lot?

Apart from Duberry they're all cheap'ish punts. Duberry was a last minute stop gap once we knew Sonko was crocked for the rest of the season.

It's hardly surprising our defence looked as shakey as it did when you consider the level of investment we've put into it, in relative terms.

I

If you have genuinely forgotten, Chris Makin. Add LR, who has improved the squad and arguably the first team too.
