Old Man Andrews I think he is probably good enough to get by in a top league but I am not suggesting he would be playing for a decent side. At the end of the day there is a reason he is at Reading, probably 2 reasons. Firstly nobody else wanted him and secondly he wanted to rebuild his career and get a decent move to a better club. Wouldn't surprise me to see him off this summer at all.

On the contrary, I'd be really surprised to see him go. I know players move clubs quite often but it seems pretty rare for someone to just stay a season.

Yes, if Reading got a stupid offer, they'd probably take it, but with 2(?) years still left on his contract, they'd want to do everything they could to keep hold of him.

I'd be really disappointed if we lost him so soon.

Yeah me too, I like him. Think it is good for Osho and McIntyre to have a proven and experienced keeper behind them for organisational purposes more than anything.

Agreed, if there is one position you'd rather have experience than an exciting young talent, it is probably in goal.

Simmops It hasn't been discussed but what if somebody comes in for Cabral and he goes? I hope that doesn't happen as he has been my POTY

What do you mean what happens? We buy a new goalkeeper.

Southwood happens.

If Southwood was in goal for this season I don't think we would have been any higher or lower than where we are. Rafael is undoubtably a good keeper but I can't remember too many games that he has won for us. Fulham away is the standout Rafael performance and the only time I can remember him keeping us in a game single handedly.

Think even if we want Southwood as number 1 we still buy a new GK. Unless you fancy it being Southwood, Andresson and Boyce-Clarke.

Southwood, career back up keeper on the cheap or loan, Boyce-Clarke. Andresson on loan.

Simple.

Walker's ooc right?

What's Jaakola up to?

I mean, I doubt Rafael is going anywhere but I agree that experience outweighs potential in the GK department. If by some miracle he does leave a new first choice GK makes sense to me.

Not suggesting him yet but what happened to Bettinelli? He looked good the season Fulham went up.

He is a good keeper, I think in our league (as proven by Virginia being tosh) you need experience and a good keeper. Rafael may not have WON us many points like AAH did, but he's definately stopped us LOSING them like Virginia single handedly did.

If only we managed to get Martinez again. That's ships long gone now . He will be first choice next season for Arsenal I think.

I think his stock has massively dropped lately. He looked okay but not great.

I think a loan option might be a great shout. That Kelleher for example from Liverpool, although he'll probably be 2nd choice at liverpool now, and I doubt we want to risk it again after the last disaster.

Federici is free.....

Difference between Southwood and Virginia.

Southwood has played for two different senior men's teams already with almost 30 appearances and got good reviews. Including keeping 4 clean sheets in 16 Scots Premier and cup games. And he's 2 years older.

But yeah, Cabral's going nowhere.

Would love if Southwood comes in and pushes for the starting spot. Rather than having it ready for him or ready to grow into would be great to see him try and take it.

Just don't really get chances for that.

Never subbed on. Rarely injuries. Couple of cup games only. And keepers are rarely so shit they get dropped.

Injuries to GKs do happen. Both Fedders and Mccarthy got decent runs in the side while 2nd choice, as is Martinez in the PL now. I like to think that if Rafael was out for a month or 2, Southwood would jump at the opportunity and add pressure.

Nobody will put in a bid for him. How would you know this? What qualifies this opinion other than your delusion? We have no money, he is a high earner. You think other clubs in and around us/abroad don't know this?

What are the lottery numbers for this weekend?

I can almost guarentee that a club somewhere is looking at him and if an offer with more money comes in, he's gone.

Deffo agreed and especially seeing Emi play as good as he is at Arsenal.

Another that comes to mind is Nick Pope. Brought for 1 Mill as a back up to Heaton and Hart. Never played, both got crocked and now look.

I would think that Bradley Peacock Farrell will be a good option on long term loan for us or to try get. He must be frustrated at not playing.

only reason he could go is again sounds like he is on a wedge in terms of wages

Depends how much they try to cut the wage bill. If someone wanted Rafael and prepared to give us a few quid, I could live with Southwood as number 1 and Walker seeing out the last year of his contract as back up

I would guarantee loads of clubs are looking at him. That is how scouting works.
If someone made a daft offer I think we could sell and Southwood could step up.
I doubt he is one we are actively looking to sell though.
