MmmMonsterMunch I can't honestly say I've seen real progress from the first day against Forest. He had the whole of pre-season to try & get his house in order as well. I don't doubt it was tough for him, but look what Malky is doing at Watford.

My passion for watching Reading has drained this season & for once I am looking forward to the next batch of games rather than dreading them!

For me it was after the win against Barnsley (our first, 6 games in) when he said "that was our pre-season over with" that he lost all credability with me. The guy was a muppet, although I was actually in the camp that wanted him in the first place. I still wanted him to succeed, but only because I'm a Reading fan, not a Rodgers fan. I don't think getting rid of him is going to help us to be honest, but I'm not sorry to see him go.

Wow - you wanted him appointed, and then turned against him after only six games (and a game we won!)? Your loyalty is precious, eh?

I've highlighted the parts you seem to have missed. HTH.

Madejski hails departed Rodgers
Reading chairman John Madejski has paid tribute to Brendan Rodgers following the latter's exit from the club.

But when asked if there had been a disagreement with Rodgers, Madejski told Sky Sports News: "Absolutely not. It was simply results.

"We left on amicable terms and I just want to place on record that Brendan Rodgers is one of the finest people I know and I wish him every success in the future.

"There's no animosity at all, but football is all about results and sadly we didn't get them.

"All I can tell you is I'm a very sad chairman because it's one of the hardest things I've had to do as he's such a straight-forward nice guy."

Hoop Blah Water under the bridge now, and although I'm disappointed at the way the club (from the board to the fans) reacted to what was an appalling start to the season I just can't wait for the new man to be appointed and hope for further progression.

Coppell earned that patience. Rodgers did not.

Coppell hadn't earnt that patience the first time round when, after taking over a team high in the league and playing some great stuff under Pardew then went on to stutter in the new year and fail to make the play offs.

I'm not sure Coppell's dire performance whilst we got relegated really warranted his chance to take us back up either, he obviously felt the same before the emotional blackmail made him go against his better judgement and stay on for another season.

Coppell raised the expectations though, and that's come back to haunt Rodgers.

Rodgers took over a very weak squad once the clear out had been completed. I think he failed to address some of those weaknesses adequately, but I think he was getting there. I'm sure there is a little more to it than just the results though. Whether that hunch will ever be proved right or wrong is another question though.

Royalee

Royalee I'm travelling to Bristol this weekend to cheer on Reading FC while you slaughter polar bears or something and pretend you're Bear Grylls, and have the best interests of the club at heart, unlike most of the idiots on this forum who barely get to games and rely on what cricket coach Tim has to say. Still, let's sign up half the Norwegian Premier League and see where that gets us you total bellend.

Didn't you have a strop last season and boycott the games while the rest of us idiots went and cheered on the team each week?

Yep, enjoyed my break from it - perhaps I'll have another one if Madejski makes a shit appointment which he probably will.

If that's a serious comment, it negates any credence in your criticising others for not attending matches. You're like a spoilt child sometimes.

Make of this what you will, Brendan Rodgers asked for funds to improve the squad in January but was told he will have to raise it himself by selling players. Kebe, Matejovsky and Long were to be sold to fund these replacements. Hammond disagreed (particularily on the valuations) which left BR in an unteniable position as he was effectively overruled. The conflict has come between the role of director of football and the manager with too many conflicts of interest. Madejski makes the final decision but pays people to help him make these decsions, remember he is not a football man but has the ear of people like nick hammond and Brian McDormott who constantly "advise" on what course of action to take. Nick Hammond is a 'yes man' and justifys his role to ensure that he ontinues to earn his very good salary.

"Madejski is not a football man"? are you suggesting that he can't have learned a thing or two over the last 20 years?

If Rodgers is making pie in the sky estimates of what he can get for players and planning his budget around it then our DoF should be telling him he's getting it wrong. Especially seeing as Hammond is far far more experienced in the transfer market.

Whiffs of Rodgers panicking that he'd oxf*rd up and hoping that he could force the club into giving him the money to try the chelsea 'spend his way out of trouble' method. Never going to happen, particularly with his rather mixed transfer record.

If he'd said the only way to keep us up was spending more money than we had available, then the right decision is thank you and goodbye, we'll get someone in who can work to our budget. He knew what he was taking on when he got the job and he spent the first 4 months screwing up.
