Is nobody else pleased that Marc McNulty is getting a chance to show what he can do? I am,i thought he looked lively in some games when he came on as a sub

I hope he can step up..For me he seems a more natural goalscorer than Puscas

It’s sad but the right decision. He’s not the player he was & Richards has improved to the extent he is now better than Obita. Just needs to add a bit more consistency to his game.

All the best to him - really hope he gets a new job. Think there will sadly be a few pros that fall out of the game this summer

Bowen has said he wants a young squad that play at a high tempo with lots of running.

You can see why we'd be having second thoughts on Ejaria and open to offers for Swift given our perilous wage bill. Ejaria plays the game at a walking pace most of the time, and his end product is seriously lacking - so why shell out £3m and wages on him? And Swift isn't exactly high tempo and full of running.

Look at what Rinomhota has done since being unshackled. Won two penalties and tucked away a header. He picks up the tempo and drives us forward. And he doesn't end it by lashing the ball into row z either (cough Williams cough) he wins a foul or looks to bring others into play.

I'm sad about Obita leaving but agree it was the right decision, if it wasn't for his injuries he would 100% be a Reading player, hell he might have even moved on to a better club as his form before his first injury was very good.

Last season he scored 3 goals in 21 league games in League One and the SPL. When he played for us he didn’t look nearly as good as Baldock, who doesn’t look as good as Puscas.

Of course we should give him a chance but so far there have been no indications he’s good enough to play at this level.

McNulty looked like a L1 player with promise who would take some time to adapt to the pace and quality of the Championship to me. And that was when he was in our shit team for a handful of games.

Perfectly happy to see him given a chance here. Though with Puscas, Meite, Joao and Baldock we don't really have room. One of those would surely have to go.

I'd rather lose Baldock than McNulty tbh, given how much you'd expect either to play and their comparative cost.

Signing Josh Laurent next week. A player released by the mighty Shrewsbury Town In the summer.

Tbf to him, he's actually not a bad player. Just our record of signing league 1 players lately isn't great.

Very disappointed Obita is leaving. He has been at the club since he was a boy. I had hoped he would get another year. Thought he was worth it.
I hope he gets a good deal elsewhere. Sad to see him go.

The last few games have just proved to me that he's just not recovered from his injuries.

He's always been weak on the back post, but now his pace has gone and he can't whip in a cross under pressure or beat his man anymore. He's never been up to CM really.

Should have value at L1 level, but with our wage budget and squad problems we have to be ruthless and can't afford to carry a player like him. Maybe if we had a LB equivalent of Yiadom so we expected he'd only be needed for a handful of games. But not with Richards who can be quite hit and miss.

2 months ago I'd have agreed with you though.

I thought he could still do a job at left back but not on the wing. Richards is very hit and miss. I prefer Obita personally. I suspect he has more goals/assists this season than any of our other full backs.

Shame on Obita going - was a big fan before his injury and been here a long time

Nice chap as well and been through a lot last couple of years

On purely football terms / prob the right decision. Best of luck to him

And means we can get some young and hungry players in

linkenholtroyal I did the calculations on the previous page for you.
Why did I bother FFS.

Sorry I missed that. Thank you x

Anyway, point stands even if that website is disputed by others on here. There is no way we are are not cutting our wage bill more than they assume.

Is the argument thrown my way every year. Every year it's wrong.

Pfft says you.

Exactly the same as Yiadom 2 & 3 vs 1 & 4

But Jordan got most of his from LW iirc.

Remember he was at FB when Brentford destroyed us.

I like him, I wish him well, I'd have loved to have seen him fully recover and make it back as a mainstay, but realistically he's just not up to it and we'd only be keeping him for sentiment.

So that's

Jordan Obita
Tyler Blackett
Chris Gunter
Garath McCleary
Charlie Adam

on top of

Pele
Matt Miazga
Ovie Ejaria (possibly)
Lucas Boye
Ayub Masika

Those are likely the ten players Bowen was referring to

Well, I mean objectively it's been wrong every year before as our wage bill is still a disaster.

Maybe this year it's my turn. But that hope seems to be based on spurious assessments of the cost of players who are leaving as it usually is (and ignoring that we'll have incomers too) rather than anything else.

The last figures show our wage bill was 211%, that means to be ok, we need to cut it by about 60 - 70%. Hopefully since those figures from outgoings last year we have already made a step in the right direction and know it's much less than that.

But getting back Miazga and Ejaria and spanking millions on Puscas and Joao don't give me a lot of hope that it was a big enough difference to make this wave (good though it is) enough.

If we're at less than 150% wages to turn over next season it'll be pretty impressive.

There has to be someone desperate enough to take Aluko off of us.
