Ideal It's just the way people are.
Basic psychology. Some think the glass is half full, some always think it is almost empty.

Some people are ridden with anxiety. Some people have undiagnosed psychiatric conditions.
These people are so ridden with anxiety, they don't know any better than to constantly fear the worst.

These are people that go to matches with an intensely negative attitude, hence, every time the opposition get the ball they sense impending doom.

Studies have shown that 30% of the population may have undiagnosed psychiatric conditions.
Women in particular are susceptible to anxiety disorders. Some are scared of everything.
Keep that in mind. It sure explains a lot.

This would absolutely not surprise me.

Royal Lady I'm asking this, because I am surrounded by fuckwits at the moment. Two women behind do nothing but moan ALL THE BLOODY TIME. Every time the oppo get the ball, the main protagonist goes "here we go, here we go, they're going to score" and, of course, they don't. Kebe can do nothing right for either of them. Ledge was getting stick. But make a good pass, score a goal and they sit there impassively, don't even bloody clap. It takes all my will to stop giving them a right mouthful to be honest. There's also a dreary voiced Welsh bloke who moans constantly - but, again, you never hear him sing, clap or get excited if we score or come close to scoring. WHY DO THEY BOTHER COMING TO GAMES?

Again today, the old bloke in front who remains completely stock still all game, every game, together with his equally boring daughter who also never claps, shouts, celebrates a goal - decided to turn around and tell Schards to stop kicking his seat? WTF? If he did touch his seat, it was once and by accident - that was the first time I'd seen the bloke even move during a game tbf. I don't expect that everyone should be jumping up and down and singing/clapping - but for God's sake, a bit of bloody enthusiasm wouldn't go amiss. I just don't understand how people can be so impassive - and the constant moaning from the people behind is ruining my enjoyment of games these days.

Imagine if the old bast**d sat in front of us

Schards#2 I understand that some people have a pessimistic outlook but these people are incredible. I've had to put up with whiners but these people are incredible. If there are howls because Reading aren't gven a free kick, they invariably say "that was a fair challange" if we have a player given offside contentiously, they will say he was miles off. In a one off game, you would be forgiven for thinking they were opposition fans sitting with Reading friends, but it's every game.

We have had four straight home wins and they have moaned through every minute of every one of them, it's staggering. I've been known to moan in the past when we've been horribly underperforming but, right now, we have a team that is performing way above it's level of talent. Whatever you think of the club's lack of ambition, the team on the pitch is outperforming expectations, even if it's not the prettiest football to watch, you can't ask for more than that.

The final straw today was when someone mentioned promotion and one said "promotion? that's the last thing we want".

y24 Row X, WHY ARE YOU HERE YOU FUKTARDS

In your opinion.

Is it only me that feels there's a degree of hypocrisy with this post?

Whore Jackie We've got some absolute thickos near us. Never had many negative characters in our vicinity, but I'm sure they can't be as infuriating as this lot.

Thicko Senior: "Ooh, I see they're playing Chopra and Bowyer today. They're really going for a win."
Thicko Junior: "Yes, they definitely want a win."
Thicko Senior's Daughter: "They want to win this."

etc, etc ...

Great news. The Thickos have unearthed a 5 year old, with the loudest, whiniest, most punchable voice ever heard in the East Stand. Fingers-crossed he's busy Friday night.

when a team routinely performs way above its "level of talent" maybe the level of talent youve assigned them is wrong

Performances seem to me to have been on the whole below the level of talent in the squad. Because we've not quite got the mix right or all the right pieces in all the right places yet perhaps.

I swear some of those in the West Lower are only there for the pies and hotdogs and the chance to get free pizza.

I know it's my fault for sitting in the North East corner, (I had to move my season ticket there to sit with friends the season before we got promoted) but the last few matches have been awful since the club decided to sit the group of kids who do the flags and half time kickabout thing there. Saturday was the worst so far - it was like sitting in the middle of a creche. I know they have to sit somewhere and I appreciate that some of those kids will go on to support Reading for life, but almost every single one of the kids (and there must have been a good 40 or 50) spent the entire 90 minutes mucking about, climbing over seats and moaning. And all their parents did was spend time on their phones checking the Premier League scores and talking about the Man Utd/Liverpool game. As mentioned, I know that they have to go somewhere, but surely that's what the family enclosure in the west stand is for? I'm not saying I want to spend the entire game swearing and abusing the opposition, but it's impossible to get into the game at all when you've got kids kicking your chair and play-fighting with each other. You want to watch the game with like-minded individuals (there was only about 10 of us in that area who even stood up when we scored), and the reason we don't sit in the Family Enclosure is so we're able to do that...

The thing I find strange is that despite us being around the play-offs, there's absolutely no sense of excitement or anticipation of the match to come at the mad stad. Saturday's was probably the worst atmosphere I've ever known for a home win. It was just completely flat throughout, and the fans were only half-hearted when we scored.

Rather than being excited by the season, everyone just seem bored by it. I'm not claiming I'm hugely different. I'm not there every saturday trying to get chants going and bubbling over with enthusiasm, but it is weird how little passion there is.

was awful this week

and the last few games have been poor- plus supporters wearing glloves ruins our synchromnised clapping.

but theres been some decent atmosphere this season. and there will be again. this week was just one of those surreal games.

It's going to be hard to get excited when we look so mediocre the entire time. Yes we're getting the results, but we don't half make it look like a tedious hard slog to do it.

Still, I feel better after a shit win than a great showing in a defeat.

A quite preposterous question posed in the OP by the Home Secretary. There are a myriad of reasons why people continue to attend games, I only have time for a few.
First and foremost we are successful winning nearly half our games, but this doesn`t tell the whole story. Brian encourages all out attacking football demonstated by the goals being shared all around the team. In fact we have eleven attacking players if you include our "sweeper keeper" Adam, but it`s our style of play that is pleasing on the eye; pass and move that sort of stuff.
The matchday experience at the Mad Stad is second to none. If the big screen before kick off doesn`t give you the adrenalin rush there are the kids with the flags and the opportunity for those in the west stand to witness players shaking hands through gritted teeth. Once the game has started the fervent east stand comes into its own, a discerning football crowd appreciative of the finer points of the game.
Of course there is the occasional negative as demonstrated by the appalling behaviour of the Coventry fans at the end of the game on saturday. Where was Plod? We need to eradicate these scenes very quickly so that more families and young children can be encouraged to attend.

we were playing really nice stuff in december imo
it has definitely slipped since- probably due to injuries, and influx of new players

itll be back in time for our usual last 8 game run in surge

Going to Reading games at the moment is dire - what makes it worse is that we're winning and it's still dire.

No atmosphere, an overperforming team that people say constantly say is underperforming. Now that we're getting a few players back from injury and with the new signings maybe the performance levels will go up, but at the moment we're just grinding out results.

We've become the Chelsea of the championship, a russian owner and boring football. BUT I am optimistic for the future on the pitch!

Not so optimistic about our fans, it feels like everyone is embarrassed to make any noise - it's pathetic. If there's not a noticeable improvement on Friday night I think I might skip the odd home game, sell my seat to a mate and put the money towards a couple of extra away games.

Mini-rant over.
