We have got more points per game when Jay Tabb has started
.33 pppg = 15 points per season, so he must be doing something right

He has only appeared on the losing team once the unlucky 0-1 home to Hull City

Games 7-43 (First 6 Games removed. They make Jay look even better)

37 Games - W 25 - D 6 - L 06 - 2.19 PPG Reading Games 7-43

28 Games - W 18 - D 5 - L 05 - 2.11 PPG Tabb Not Starting
09 Games - W 07 - D 1 - L 01 - 2.44 PPG Tabb Starts
08 Games - W 07 - D 1 - L 00 - 2.75 PPG Tabb Sub
17 Games - W 14 - D 2 - L 01 - 2.59 PPG Tabb All Appearances

Massimo taibi had a great winning ratio at man utd, so yeah. We've been through this, one player does not a team make. Tabb during the southampton game ( as thats what we are analysing here not the whole season) was pedestrian, he gave the ball away too many times and was overrun.

FR they are big ppg differences. How do you explain them away?

It's not like he's "hanging in there, results wise, he's hammering it"

Add in the first six games of the season and the difference is 1.98 ppg
when he's not on the pitch 2.44 when he appears, 2.75 when on as a sub

He's a midfielder, and being blamed for when it's going wrong (Southampton)
yet in the next breath "one player doesn't make a team" (of course)

If he really was not good enough we'd be losing games when he plays, and we
lost just ONE (to a freaky offside goal)

Maguire
RoyalBlue
Maguire I think the Saints fans are pretty generous with their comments and probably (understandably) a little down about their teams performance when in fact they played pretty well.

Lambert was the best player on the park IMHO but they outplayed us in midfield and we really struggled to retain possession up the pitch. Thought our central midfield really struggled to get to grips with it and didn't seem to be able to control the ball let alone anything else.

I would urge those who thought our central midfielders struggled so much to watch a video of the game. They actually did pretty well and Jobi was superb when he moved into the centre

I downloaded the game as it happens - still think "bag of cement" springs to mind when seeing Jay Tabb try to control the ball.

I understand your point, but I think a bag of cement would cushion the ball quite nicely, assuming there was a little air in the bag.

Jesus, nobody said he's not good enough, just that he was a bit off the pace on Fri night.

No need to have another stat spaz

Still think he was injured , only time he really pushed himself was when he was about to be taken off and he immediately pulled up.

Exactly. At half time I was saying to my mate that Tabb had to go off. He just wasn't getting close enough to the Saints midfield and also produced nothing on the ball. I was suggesting Bryn's composure but Jobi also did a great job in there.

I think my favourite comment post-game was...

"We were a country mile better than Reading, its just that they have a good keeper, our defence was awful and they took their chances in front of goal".

So when you say 'country mile better' you mean your midfield was better than our fourth and fifth choice CMs then?

I know a Saints ST holder and they said "Totally gutted. We played well but three chances, three goals, that's what it's all about. Fair play to you, no complaints"

which I thought was both gracious and true

I thought both teams looked pretty good and the game showed why we are first and second in the league. Looked a step above most the matches we've seen recently and with one or two summer additions I don't think either team will look out of place in the Premiership. We gave a more assured performance in my opinion and they were a bit naive, I'm not surprised they've beaten teams comfortably playing like that this season but we showed that they need to be a bit wiser when they come up against better quality opposition which they will week in week out next season. I think that was the difference between the teams

Agreed.

It's funny that when Man Utd soak up pressure and still manage to win they're fantastic but when we do it we're lucky.

weve done that all season. soak it up, let them have it until they get into dangerous areas, then knick it, get the ball up the other end and score.

I didn't think we were particularly lucky v Saints, but we had a fair bit v Brighton,
and had we conceded a second in that first half-hour at WHU I think we'd've been trounced
