As usual with most Hob Nobbers (not most Reading fans) they pick on a minor element of a post and focus on a throwaway line rather than the point of the topic and we have pages and pages of stuff about whether a poster is a tosser (something which he himself hardly disputes).
IMHO I agree with him that Reading fans (not Hob Nobbers necessarily) are moaners like fans of most clubs , they probably boo less than most but conversely probably don't cheer as much as most.
We are middle-of-the-road Reading with a team that historically often went a season by winning as many at home as we lost away and I would suggest that our fans are about as close to average as you can get.
An average type of fan from a fairly non-descript town surrounded by other smaller non-descript towns like Newbury, Wokingham, Maidenhead and Basingstoke from where most of the fans come plus even more non-descript outposts like Bracknell and Woodcote.

Just accept that is what we are and not a football hotbed like Liverpool or Glasgow.

Just for clarification I'm sure you are referring to the OP and not this rather different poster of a Vic who has a bit more class and style than the type above.

Internet forums aren't for everyone Vic. Maybe you should get one of your 'clients' to post on your behalf

CountryRoyal Most fans are of a relative fickle nature.
Who remembers all that crap with arseanal at the start of the season.. that was after ONE game/defeat.

Nothing personal countryroyal, but you seemed to have completely missed the direction in which this thread has gone.

Its personal when you don't spell my name right. C and the R should be capital. You cvnt.

Steady on old son, there's no need for that especially in the time of 'good will to all men'.

However, vic_flange………..What a KNOB!

Dear Flange, I have four children and ten grandchildren. That qualifies me for absolutely nothing.

I have held many senior positions in business. That does not qualify me for commenting on football teams or their supporters.

Incidentally, MD is a full time role. Being 2x is a no-no. Chairman yes, non-exec yes, but not MD.

Vic_Flange Oh dear, in the shit again

The only reason I said I was in charge of a company etc was to show why some fans cannot get to all the games - I don't have time in the week as iam looking after my employees, customers, insurers, accountants, Users and so on. I don't care if you are employed, unemployed, a director, a chairman, whatever, I just hope you are all true Reading fans

Fair play to you vic for having the bollocks to emerge again, but you just can't help it can you?

Looking after my employees, customers, insurers, accountants, users (what the oxf*rd is a user?) and so on. Even SJM doesn't have to do that much and he is big business.

And the very patronising 'I just hope you are all true Reading Fans'. Well oxf*rd you vic, i'm not. If i could bunk in without paying i would and to top it the team are shit at the moment and i don't know if i can find it in me to go tomorrow, especially with a head full of the previous nights beer.

Try again vic, but give it a little thought because based on this your sons won't get into Eton, but on 2nd thoughts, perhaps they will.

Fair post oldebiscuit, but getting into Eton has no relevance. Knowing people who went to Eton - now that's different.

Thats the trouble old biscuitman, its not necessarily your level of intelligence that gets you in to Eton, as we all know, its who you know.
And having, believe it or not, mixed with a few Etonians, i actually think vic_flange's lack of communication and mitigation would qualify.

Tbf I've been MD of two companies simultaneously, albeit doing the same thing and in the same premises, so it is possible. I might add that I have three children and am a complete and utter tosser.

Fair enough Nym. I tossed it out completely a long time ago, so have no right to a voice, but speak up occasionally.

I think we can all accept that the further north you go, the better the support. Didn't stop us having a good laugh in the south bank though!

Vic_Flange This may come as a surprise to all those who post constantly that 'Reading Fans are tossers' etc (I assume you include yourselves in this?) however, have any of you ventured outside of Reading Town limits?

You will find all clubs have loyal supporters (I count myself in this) the annoying fans, fans who leave early, fans who get there 3 hours early, ignorant fans, plastic fans, the whole lot.

Here is a New Years Resolution -we are no different from any other club, so let's stop all the 'Typical Reading fan' bullshit, unless it is something like 'Whose club moved from Elm Park to the Madejski Stadium?' thread

PS I will do it before anyone else does - Am I a tosser? No. I have four children, run my own business and am MD of two others.

Sorry but we are tossers.

Southern, rich, lazy, not very friendly, expect everything on a plate.

I say so as a proud southerner and born and bred Reading man, but the truth is there are many things very different about us that make us tossers:

1) we've suddenly grown in supporter numbers with unprecedented success in the last with a huge number of plastics demanding success
2) we're southerners - nowhere near in general as friendly as northeners. Sad but true
3) we are having our minds twisted by years of perceived lies (rightly or wrongly) about our ambition and a huge discrepancy between what is being spouted out by our owner/s and what actually materialises
4) we are in a very good position to be successful and have always only just missed out due to some very bad club owner decisions/directions (i.e. lack of minimal investment at crucial times etc)

There are of course many good things, like the incredible growth, the brick by brick approach, the new stadium, excellent record of managers etc..

So there are many things wrong about us and many things right about us.

Every club has its booers etc but I wouldn't be surprised if we are unfriendly, over-expecting, plastic-infiltrated fans compared to many others, mixed in with people who are much more grateful for the rise than other clubs where there hasn't been such an increase in fortunes.

We are a rare club.

PS - case in point: the fact that you even consider it relevant to mention that you run your own business and are a MD of two others makes my point re: affluent southerners.

I have one child and I am not an MD of a local business. I do have a video I have made but it's not a porno

That therefore qualifies me as a tosser.

Use the phrase "touch base"

They also use the phrases;
'thrown a curve ball'
'i'll see if i have a window in my diary'
'early doors' (as used by the king of all tossers Len Gobble)

I actually liked the fans on Wednesday

by ZacNaloen » 02 Jan 2014 15:39

Dunno if it had anything to do with the fights on here or not but I was very pleased that the fans, particularly Y25 made a real effort to back the players.

Yeh it didn't always come off but the whole crowd did get involved a couple of times, particularly as the players really didn't respond to it but good stuff.

Just gotta remember we've got to keep it up when we concede :?

Yep, players can't blame the fans for their poor performance against Forest.
Kept up a constant noise for a lot of the 1st half.
The return: One shot, not even on target.

No surprise that they gave up bothering after zero reaction from the players.
It seems they don't respond positively to boos or encouragement.

Somewhat unusually I was sitting in North Stand for once and there seemed to be no sound at all from anywhere around the ground until quite late in the game. For about 65 minutes it sounded more like a morgue than a library from where I was. I thought even the Forest fans were subdued.

You didn't hear 10 minutes of Blue Army in the first half?

I sit in the opposite corner (top of north) and could hear it loud and clear.
