The is a unprecedented decision in modern times.
IMO it would be far greater to celebrate her service with hundreds and thousands applauding across the country at 3pm in the stadiums.
Football is uniting at difficult times and it will send a great message to all mourning how loved she was across the country. Much better tribute than wall to wall documentaries.

Would actually agree with this wholeheartedly. By Saturday no doubt everyone will have had enough of the over the top media reaction and rolling news of nothing and want to get out.

Doing that would also have avoided yet more fixture congestion to add to the mess the various footballing authorities have already caused this season and avoided undeserved expense for non league clubs.

Would this mean the fixtures the day before the funeral will also be cancelled?

Can't say I'm surprised the game is off tomorrow. It's frustrating but football can be played later, this is a terrible occasion.

Look on the bright side, another away midweek game which we nearly always win.

Franchise FC I absolutely refuse to apologise for something over which I had absolutely no control whatsoever

I have some family members that have done bad things. Would I be apologising for them ?
I don’t think so

However, do I think what happened was acceptable … NO

I think Britain should apologise but only after the Italians have apologised to various peoples for the slavery, invasions and enforced kidnapping endured over countless centuries courtesy of the Roman Empire.

And then Norway, Denmark and Sweden should apologise for the actions of the Vikings.

Next.

You would expect it to be a weekend, so there could be a full programme on Saturday/Sunday.

Well I was wrong. Seems rather stupid to me - one day would have made sense. This isn’t Thailand.

Would be great if people wouldn’t use a football forum to give their shit takes on the British Empire.

According to the earlier post football in cancelled until 12th (I presume that means 12th September not October  ) and no football on the day of the funeral.

From all the bits I can see online the funeral is to be held 10 days after her passing which would actually be Sunday 18th September so if the above is correct only the games scheduled for 18th September will be postponed and we can all still enjoy that day out in Wigan.

I dont believe the funeral will be on Sunday - it will be a midweek affair with a bank holiday. Thats my understanding. And yes, the 12th September.

A bit too quick of a turn around for a funeral, even the Queen where cost is obviously not really an issue. Maybe the 19th.

Yes, I've seen reports saying that the funeral is almost certainly going to be the monday (19th). My calendar tells me that it's Japan's 'Respect for the Aged Day'.

Explain it to me then, because I read it several times before responding and then re-read it again after your response because it looks like he's suggesting the funeral will be on the 12th. I don't get what I've apparently not read correctly.
