A number does hold history, definitely for Man Utd, wearing the number 7, you must feel obliged to do something. United have had Best, Cantona, Beckham, Ronaldo as their #7.

But at a club like ours, the number 9 to me only reminds me of Friday. Our numbers don't resemble anything in particular, they are just bloody numbers.

So what if Long is numma 9, someone's gotta wear it.

He's shown a huge improvement in the last few games last season and actually scored consistently. Add that to the probably many more starts he'll receive next season and the fact Jay is an idiot means it's a bet worth taking a piece of.

While I'm not going to throw my money away, Jay may (MAY) have a point.

Shane Long isn't going to be our front-line striker this season. If he is then we'll be in trouble.

Based on the end of last season I disagree and anyway NHunt will be our main striker

Totally agree.

If we're going to have Long and Hunt and our two main forwards then I can't see us really troubling the play offs.

I still think Long would get 10 goals, as he probably should even as our third choice.

Oh dear- mediocre season ahead if he's up top. Needs to be N Hunt alongside a new prolific striker

I know why it's 9- because on football manager his first touch is most probably a 9 out of 20!

I've said this before, but I'll say it again, I agree with an awful lot of what you say.

Rodgers has already acknowledged that we need a 15-20 goal man in the squad to replace Doyle, hence him being so keen on Tommy Smith. Trouble is, as the days progress it's looking more and more like smudger or bust. There must be alternatives out there somewhere?

Yer I agree with you but it does worry me when Shane Long is made number 9. We should have been the team to sign cox for £2 mill it was only a 3rd of Doyle's fee. And whilst Smith is a good player he's 29 and would be replaced if we went up. There just seems to be a lack of ambition here. However Rodgers talks good and i believe he will get the best out of the players so I could be proved wrong. But come on whilst others are signing players we promote " cant get the ball under control" Shane Long to the number 9 berth- its not exactly inspiring!
