Simon's Church
Hendo John Obi Mikel signs for Stoke.

Last season they hired Nathan Jones and wanted him to reduce the age of the squad, this season they have Michael O'Neill and have signed John Obi Mikel, James Chester and Steven Fletcher :?

I know we would like a little bit of extra experience but Christ, that is going to be an old squad there.

Blimey! Plenty of ‘experience’

Stoke didn’t fancy ‘young and hungry’ then

As expected, Sheff Wed have now launched an appeal against their points deduction.

Shame these appeals aren’t like red card appeals where you could get an X-ray game added to your ban for a frivolous appeal.
Presumablynthey will claim the punishment was disproportionate to the crime which IIRC ended up being treated as an admin error rather than deliberate fraud. Sounded to me like they had been let off and treated rather leniently...

They seem to be saying something about the EFL signing off on the stadium deal and saying it was fine to add it to the accounts they did so are arguing the maximum points deduction was overly harsh?

Further punishment for frivolous appeals on red cards haven't been a thing for a while.

Derby County get away Scott free from the EFL enquiry

https://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/2020/08/der ... ugust-2020

Charge One: The club’s valuation associated with the sale of Pride Park Stadium in June 2018.
Charge Two: The club’s amortisation policy associated with intangible fixed assets (players).

The club strongly contested the challenge to the valuation of Pride Park Stadium, as well as the newly notified charge in respect of intangible fixed asset amortisation and has been consistent relating to this matter from the outset.
The charges held up against the club were put to an independent disciplinary commission.

The outcome was as follows:
Charge one was dismissed.
Charge two was also dismissed, save for, the commission found the wording of the amortisation policy in its financial statements could have been clearer.

One wonders if that will add substance to the Sheff Weds appeal.

Be interesting if they do get sway with that, as would imagine every other club will start doing the same thing.

Cardiff terminate Nathaniel Mendez-Laing's contract

The club has not explained the reasons behind the decision but BBC Sport Wales has learned it is for an alleged breach of contract.

Reading should be interested. Well provided he hasn't killed someone.

Do many clubs insist on making not killing anyone a contractual thing ?

I guess that just seems to be like the most obviously idiotic thing a footballer would get involved in and gets you sacked.

That or it was COVID related, i.e. broke COVID rules or claimed he had COVID and coughed on someone.
