You own a football club for chrissake. You're supposed to put your own money in. It's what football club owners do.

no, its what abramovich, and dave whelan do.
the rest will be looking to sell at some point, making a profit-thus taking money out of the club they own.

if you want to make an offer, and then start pouring millions a year down a drain, never to be seen again, and see how you feel about it then

Sarah Star It says "on a season-long loan" for Zurab and Madejski says we'll be bringing "players" in. So, who's next?

Man Friday "securing the long-term future of Reading Football Club..."

More like securing the long-trem future of John Madejski.

You own a football club for chrissake. You're supposed to put your own money in. It's what football club owners do. In return you get kudos, prestige, etc. You can't have your cake and eat it. Sell the club at a realistic fee nad let somebody in who's prepared to invest.

I think JM's got a good, realistic long-term plan. Would you rather we be another portsmouth?
Apparently we're linked with Matty Fryatt, and leicester are linke with several strikers, so maybe something will happen there.
Either way, it's a change of shape. Last years successful 4-2-3-1 looks out with 4-4-2 in.
Remember, Noel Hunt's back, that's like a new signing.

AND IN THE MEANTIME FUND THE CLUB OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKET

In return you get status, power, publicity. Think he'd have got his knighthood otherwise? If he won't put (his own) money in, step aside (after selling the club at a MARKET price).

We're in danger of becoming another Crewe.

You do have to wonder though... I mean SJM is always going on about how being a millionaire isn't enough and that he wants to sell to a billionaire who will be able to throw lots of money at the Club - but you have to wonder if what he really means is a billionaire who will make me a silly offer for the club because it has 'the potential to be bigger than Arsenal.'

I wonder how many Carson Yeung type prospective new owners haven't even considered making offers for Reading because they know that it'll cost them way more than they're prepared to pay...

We're a championship club. If you list all of the clubs in order of size, we are not in the top 20 (neither are wigan, stoke, blackpool etc).
I don't pay any attention to takeover speculation, 'cos it's never going to happen!
We just have to wait 'til we get a lucky signing, or produce another great player from the youth academy.

That's my point though, we are absolutely stuck with Madejski - he's not going to ever sell the club for what he wants so we'll just go bumbling along now paying for everything ourselves... nothing wrong with that, but it's not going to get us anywhere.

He shouldn't have been so greedy when there was talk of a takeover bid in the air... instead of sending his henchmen out to talk up the value of the club in the most ridiculous of ways.

But we are not a big club with some sort of divine right to be in the Premiership (See Brighton).

We've spent the majority of our existence in the third tier but been cursed with recent success which means the expectations of some fans are completely out of whack with horrible reality.

Do you remember the years SDR spent spouting off on how we would never get out of whatever the third tier happened to be called at the time?

I think it's more about what fans see as potentially possible than what they expect.

I tend to think that SJM has more ability to provide funds than he suggests - he suggest he has next to nothing to put in - some fans want tens of millions - I think the answer is more likely that he could probably afford to stick in a million this season but has chosen not to.

I also think that there was a reasonable chance that Yeung might have made an offer for the club had his reaction to the paper talk not been basically that he club was worth at least double what's being talked about. For me that wasn't a decision made to make sure we got an owner with 'deep pockets' it was designed to get him the biggest and best offer possible - and it backfired an the bloke went an looked elsewhere.

So now we're stuck with a Chairman who can't or won't invest and can't sell. Nothing can be done about that now - but the opportunity may have existed for us to break out and I blame SJM for not entertaining that possibility. He always talks as though it's the Club that matters most - but it's not - it's him.

I would suggest it's what the majority of chairman in the lower leagues do. No one in their right mind puts money into them expecting to make a speedy and decent return.

and it's exactly what he did when we were in the lower divisions. How much do you expect him to pay every year in this division?

Does anyone have the number for the Guinness Book of Records? If there's a record for the world's largest collection of shit, the team board must have broken it in the last couple of days.

No, but it helped get his head above the parapet the moment we entered the PL what with the attention football gets in this country.

But with respect that is just pure speculation on your part as is the list of reasons quoted elsewhere why the club has not been sold. Nobody has a shred of proof that this is true.

There were no offers for Crystal Palace, a club with a traditionally larger fan base when they were in administration and available for WAY below 70 million.

...and so will the football team having sold its best players just to address some imaginary deficit.

Am I the only one who thinks that Madejski just wants a high figure for the club - hence there has been no interest. ?
