NathStPaul
WestYorksRoyal Not surprising but absolutely galling nonetheless. What's frustrating is that if we hadn't got ourselves in such an FFP mess, we'd have surely extended his deal last year. Interestingly he may well find himself in a similar FFP mess at Stoke in a year or so.

If Bowen and Ince can keep us up next season their achievement will almost match those of Hammond and Coppell.

Sorry what?

Maybe hyperbole, but it would be a decent achievement to stay up next season given our constraints.

It would but I'm not sure anything can come close to the best period in our clubs history.

Truth is we just don't know where we are yet, I'm reserving judgement until the eve of our first fixture.

Zip
tidus_mi2 How the oxf*rd have Stoke not fallen foul of FFP? And now they're nicking one of our best players.

Yeah this is what I’m thinking. Doesn't seem right.

Other clubs were saying the same about us for a couple of years.

They'll get their comeuppance if they don’t make it work. Same as us.

Laurent came on a free, did well the first season, but started to believe the hype and, IMO underperformed significantly last season.
The finances means he's gotten a better offer.

Good luck to him.

A modern Danny Bailey.

Fingers crossed recruitment gives us something to work with.

Pepe the Horseman Aren't Stoke supposed to be in financial bother as well?

Stoke 'sold' their stadium for a vast amount. I think they have much better accountants than we do!

Have they actually done that now. I think it was valued in their accounts last year at about £40m according to the media.

And Joe Allen is rumoured to be moving to Swansea.

Do you see us signing 8-9 players before the end of July? It's looking unlikely. Probably be playing the under 18s in our first game at this rate.

Greatest achievement since 2012 then? And I feel comfortable saying it now; it would be a great achievement for the club as a whole to take us from the current situation to survival.

Close to that. Sure, why not? The squad is pretty bare and we're expecting to sign 2 shortly.

There's plenty of potential points deductions and a lot of dross this season. Survival won't be an amazing achievement. Difficult, sure. But there's only 3 teams we have to finish above. Not 23.

Laurent was keen to stay if Ince stayed, so we must be offering derisory money!

Ince was T. Ince would stay, wouldn't have a choice, if he stayed; and he still hasn't signed.

You pay peanuts you get monkey's. This going to be a long and painful season with Division 3 waiting for us at the end of it!

Unfortunate wording in the context of what you said.

There will be a chance for our Academy to prove its worth this coming season. There are some exciting, young hungry and talented players in this group and if we can sign a few experienced pro's to help nurture then along then this can only bode well for the future.

Give me a group of hungry players willing to bleed for the badge over the over paid individuals we've had on show the past 4-5 seasons every day of the week.

It'll be tough and there will be many error's but it'll be exciting to watch...and you never know what can happen in the Championship.

I for one am excited to see how this all pans out. It may end up with relegation, we may prove people wrong, but this reset is much needed for the good of the club....come on you Urrrzzzzzzzz.

You take things too literally and as gospel.

Thinking Laurent was likely to stay because he made some positive noises about Ince is daft. So is thinking Paul making a joke about his son meant anything. And so is being surprised that we're not offering compeititve wages for good players given our enforced budget.

Where have you been for the last 18 months!?

Yeah, though one of the things that concerns me is the decent academy players haven’t signed a new contract yet either!

Are you expecting some U23s from a team that finished bottom last year to turn into competitive championship players and keep us up next season? yea right.

Tbf that u23 team was basically a u18 team. A lot of the better players - Clarke, Ehib, Camara, Ashcroft, Tetek, Samuels etc were either knocking about the first team or injured (an issue in itself of course)

Pretty disappointed overall to lose an important player in Laurent considering his end of season form was good, but I suppose it's also no massive surprise either. A tough pill to swallow, but not irreplaceable although I don't think we will manage to pick anyone up on loan or for free as good as or better than him.

A lot of the top academy prospects have found themselves in and around the first team last season for various different reasons. I think the one who could potentially really apply himself next season (if given the opportunity) would be Dorsett. I think we all consider Azeez and Tetek as part of the first team squad now rather than coming through the academy.

I wouldn't feel comfortable having to rely on potentially more than 3 players from the academy though as I don't think most are ready yet, Dorsett has had a decent bit of experience of first team football, so could be ready, but not a given either.
