From bbcsport_david on Twitter: "West Ham want Shane Long but Reading director of football Nick Hammond tells me 'no deals of any consequence today, just a few kids coming in'."

 No.

Doyle was proven in the Premier League and had 15+ goals in two Champ seasons. Long has managed none of that (yet). Very promising, but I would be surprised if he went for much more than half Doyle's fee even at seasons end with a goal tally of 18+

Not very accurate, as usual, IR.

19,877 Minutes 77 Goals = a Goal every 258 Minutes Doyle
09,324 Minutes 43 Goals = a Goal every 217 minutes Long

In Internationals Long is besting Doyle, scoring at better than twice Doyle's rate

Outside the Premiership Long is matching Doyle and just edging him.

Doyle wins on Premiership goals scored, but only because he's played more than six times as many minutes.

05 Premiership Goals in 1651 Premiership Minutes, a goal every 330 minutes = LONG
30 Premiership Goals in 9937 Premiership Minutes, a goal every 331 minutes = Doyle

35 CCC and Cup Goals in 6842 Minutes, a goal every 195 minutes LONG
36 CCC and Cup Goals in 7140 Minutes, a goal every 198 minutes DOYLE

INTERNATIONALS

0,583 Minutes - 5 Goals = a Goal every 117 Minutes, LONG
2,427 Minutes - 9 Goals = a Goal every 270 Minutes, Doyle

DOYLE
5492 minutes - 19 goals = a goal every 289 minutes for Reading
4445 minutes - 11 goals = a goal every 401 minutes for Wolves

To be fair, IR was pointing out that WHEN DOYLE WAS SOLD he was a proven Prem goal scorer, Long isn't. However, Doyle's stats since being sold are obviously not too bright.

True, but Long is a year younger than Doyle was when he was sold
and matches Doyle's CCC record, betters his International record
in terms of goals per minute and has scored 11 goals against Premiership
opposition. (He was an 19-20 year old baby when we were in the Prem.)

If Long improves by only 10% in the next 20-ish games and next season
he will have comfortably passed Doyle's goals total for RFC, and be fair,
he's playing for a generally weaker team.

Indeed - it assumes that just one measure (goals) are all that counts, wheras Mick McCarthy has been singing the praises of Doyle all season for the way he holds the ball up and keeps possession whilst others join the attack.

But as that can't be measured in numbers it doesn't count.

If the fans had a choice of voting to have one of either Shane Long or Kevin Doyle at RFC as they are now as players (eg: not "when Doyle was playing in 2006"), I wonder how many people would choose Shane Long?

(And yes, I know thats NOT going to happen ever, its just hypothetical!)

And where exactly are Wolves in the Prem?

Oh yes, second bottom with a GD of -17, Doyle has 2 Prem goals in 18 Starts this season.

Of course he's a great player, loved him to bits, but it's this list that says a strikers job is to score goals
and when Shane was working like a trojan for the team and NOT scoring, you all reminded me, of, what
was it again? Oh, yes, "A strikers job is to score goals and Long isn't doing it."

Well this year, his fourth year in the Prem, just like his second year in the Prem, Doyle is failing to score goals.
