andrew1957 Well we are down to the last match of the season and I freely admit that I thought we would be safe by now. To be fair we would have been if we had beaten Fulham as I expected.

I still think we can do it. If we win on Saturday there is a 60% chance that we will stay up as I really cannot see Pompey rolling over as many on here seem to believe, so I would not give Fulham more than 40% chance of winning their game.

It is down to our boys to give it 100% one more time and lets hope Derby's defence is at the same level as it has been so far this season.

If I am wrong and we go down I will freely admit that I was complacent and that I know a lot less about football than I thought BUT lets all get behind the boys one last time and maybe by this time next week we will still be a PL team after all.

The fact that it's out of our hands with one game left has already demonstrated this.

But to be fair, unlike our Chairman, he appears prepared to admit that he got things wrong this season!

Even if we do stay up it shouldn't change a thing you've just said.

No - if we finish 17th we were good enough and most of us would have accepted that at the start of the season. It is where we finish after 38 games that counts. I still believe we will be in the PL this time next week.

What with your track record Andrew, this is surely the death knell to any vague chance we might have had left.

We all know that no matter what we post, say, or do that it is ultimately out of our hands. Although Reading have never lost a game this season when Compo has beaten me at scrabble. I am going to throw the game this week just in case.

Remember the last game in the Championship when we played at Wigan who went up that year?
We surrendered meekly when what we needed was a strong performance.........................I think that is going to happen on Sunday.

I think both Fulham and us will draw both games.

Tbf that was against a much better side than ours going for promotion

A better example of a meak surrender was Watford. They finished about 18th, we needed to win to sneak a playoff spot and we were utter shite and ended up losing 1-0 to an Ashley young goal when he was just breaking into their first team. I haven't been as angry after a game as i was that day.

Whether it is Watford or Wigan I can see a meek surrender cumming our way.

Of our 7 CUP FINALS, where we were going to play with 110 % EFFORT, we've got, so far,

2 DRAW

and

4 DEFEATS

Goals scored ... errr ...

I really hope we beat Derby.

Agree.

Pompey 1-1 Fulham

Goalless draw at Derby. Hahnemann ends the game in the opposition penalty area as we chase a winner.

Hello 14k at home to Burnley. Still, you get a better atmosphere in the Championship

I only hope Madejski's pride is dented as much as it clearly was after that game. Funnily enough he was relatively quiet afterwards but the embarrassment sparked him into some serious action and investment.

Just read this quote from Steve Coppell in relation to this last Cup Final:

"We’ve got one game to achieve our ambition this year. If we do it, what a day it will be.”

If our ambition for this year really was to depend on other teams losing their last game of the season in order for us to maintain our PL status then no wonder we have been so deep in the shyte!

It's like an international high jumper asking for the bar to start at 1.5M and then struggling to clear it on all three attempts!

On the other hand, aim for the stars and maybe you'll reach the sky!

Well what can I say - as promised I WAS WRONG.

But I am proud that the boys did well on the last day. Even if Derby are rubbish it still took guts to go and win when they had to - just a shame it was not 7-0.

I was really depressed yesterday but actually woke up this morning feeling excited about the Championship.

I really hope SC stays as I cannot see that anyone is better qualified to take up straight back up. If he goes I fear we may never see the PL again - many clubs have fallen into this trap before - a couple of years in the top flight and then perpetual obscurity - Brighton come to mind as a good example.

As for the players most deserve to be given another chance although I dearly hope we get rid of Hunt and Shorey. Shorey has let us down most of the season and Hunt has let us down badly in the second half - how anyone voted for him as player of the season astounds me as he only played for half a season. He was awful yet again yesterday. All the others seem to have given their all but have lacked confidence.

At last we may see some of the youth break in - like Henry, Pearce and Karacan to name a few.

Looking forward to it already.
