Hungerford Bee
Sun Tzu These days none of the above are 'rivals' in any meaningful sense.

Hard to see us ever playing Aldershot, Swindon, Oxford or Brentford again in a league match (at least for many years).

I really hope that comes back to bite you sooner rather than later. You are only on loan to the 2nd division and the natural order of life will re-assert itself on good time.

BTW - for us it is QPR with honourable mention to Fulham and Watford distant third with Reading still clearing the fina hurdle and well beaten.

Ooh get her  Fwiw, I would guess that most Reading fans have - as I do - a totally patronising soft-spot for Brentford. A pub on every corner, promotion in 2002 and our knack of poaching basically any half decent player or manager you have had over the last ten years or so. Plus the missis's dad is a Brentford fan, so good luck to 'em.

Aldershot my mum used to watch with her grandad many years ago, I find them utterly likeable in all honesty with their quirky little ground, the roister-doisters. Reading fans obsession with Swindon has always totally bemused me; 40 miles away and with very different accents to ours. Oxford is always good for shits and giggles but any particular dislike of them on my part would be purely manufactured.

For old gits like me it will always be Aldershot. Back in the 70's and 80's it was the only local ground we took, I can remember Swindon and Oxford both taking the south bank, something we never managed at the Manor or Swindon, although we did put up some good fights dispite being outnumberd on a few ocasions.

An even older git can recall watching the storming the terracing behind the goal at Oxford in 1967 and also chasing Swindon fans around their ground, this whilst sections of the Reading support fired bonfire rockets from rolled up programmes. 1966 or perhaps 67. Ah... those were the days. No one then was even sure where Aldershot was.

I never really had an issue with Oxford. Aldershot is way before my time. I couldn't stand Swindon, but how long has it been since we played them in the league? That's rather lost it's edge.

Any Reading fan who has a problem with Wycombe or Brentford I just don't understand. I have a similar patronising soft spot to Floyd for both.

Pompey and Saints are more rivals to us (or at least me) these days. In my early days based purely on the near exclusive coverage they got on the local news. The fact that they are both total scummer clubs helps as well.

We're too small for Chelsea or Arsenal or Spurs. Fulham and Watford are too innocuous. QPR, maybe, but that's got more to do with the hoops than anything and I find it hard to hate a club who wear the same colours as us.

Wolves have been thoroughly avenged and the dislike has faded a great deal. Sheffield United was only ever a pantomine villain. Bolton I stil dislike a lot, but that's now got less to do with the Play Off Final than it has to do with years of that fat cheating scumbag.

They don't give a shit about you, you're too small and insignicant to them both. Both have won, and done, more than Reading ever will.

I hope the massive Saints enjoy their probably lengthy stay in League 1. At least they'll have Leeds to keep them company.

Yet, Saints and Pompey, despite whatever league they're in, will ALWAYS be regarded as more successful, bigger and generally more well known than Reading.

You know it too.

Tell that to Forest, or Preston, or any number of other clubs that have been at the top and fallen down the leagues...

Yet, like I said, doesn't matter what league theyre in.

Forest (6), Preston(4), Burnley(3), Sheff Wed(3), Pompey(4), Saints(1), Huddersfield(4), Leeds(7), etc etc have won major trophies.

I'm afraid this is where Reading lack as a club. In terms of not winning trophies, just being in the top flight, you still can't touch any of these clubs.

The club's mentioned aren't massive bar Leeds, but all bigger than Reading.

Reading are a good club, but naturally league 1.

You're an idiot.Yes Southampton and Pompey are bigger currently but who knows what will happen in the future? To say that Reading will never win a major trophy is complete bollocks. Also, honours pre the 1940s practically don't even count. The 4,000 southampton fans that visited Madejski obviously considered us a big club given the reaction that took place after the 2-1 win.Btw we won the Simod cup so oxf*rd off!

You have to win 4 major trophies just to get level with Pompey. And 27 top flight years consecutively to match southampton.

Pompey = champs of england x2, fa cups x2
Saints = 1 FA Cup and top flight apperances many

HAHAHAHA is that all Saints have won? That makes us as big as them I'm afraid, we've won a major cup. Simod involved the top teams. May not have been around long, but it counts. Sorry.

Only one of those teams is bigger than us right now I'm afraid. History means nothing in the here and now.

I'd class a minor cup as one the top flight wasn't involved in. Not one they are/were.

Regardless 1 title is pathetic for such a massive club as Saints. How upset they must be finishing below puny Reading for at least 5 consecutive seasons.

How's the new stadium coming?

For someone who doesn't consider us a rival you seem to have got remarkably riled. And be spending rather a lot of time putting us right...
