SteveRoyal I find it remarkable that the majority of fans always focus on the negatives of every game.
Let's be honest, even in Coppell's era it would always be difficult to beat Sheffield United - they are a class Championship act.
We're a new team, new manager, new tactics, new coaches, completely new. We're getting used to the transition and put up something of a fight against promotion contenders and all the fans focus on is that we lost.

A few points: -

How many games did a Coppell team lose against Sheff Utd?

The words "Sheffield Utd" and "class..act" are almost mutually exclusive.

We aren't undergoing a transition, we are suffering the results of a Slash and Burn policy...didn't need to be this way, but it seems to have been the preferred route for a number of parties at the Club.

Never mind...mindless optimism is always a nice, comforting place to be.

Well I have come back this evening with real mixed feelings. That was the best performance of the four so far and yet we got beaten heavily.

It is ridiculous to blame the manager - who can only work with the players he has.

It is equally ridiculous to blame the young players who gave 100%. I cannot help feeling that if we can keep this young side together that they could be something really special in about 2 years time BUT if we do not buy experience in the meantime we will probably be in League 1 by then and rebuilding right from the bottom and will the club turn down offers for the young stars if that happens - on the current track record I have to think not - so we may not even be able to keep this team together and could then be in lower divisions for years if we are not careful.

We have to buy some experience in the next few days or it will be a long season of struggle as I have said on another thread.

As for the performance - well we played nicely but were toothless and the experienced Sheffield side always looked like the winners as soon as they equalised. What I just do not understand is how Sheffield can afford to keep their experienced team together and add to it and yet we cannot. I guess one club has ambition and one does not - us. Individually most of our players are good, but young players are more prone to errors and errors in this division are punished as we saw today.

Fed - 4 - Not a good day at the office but we all make mistakes
Bertrand - 7 - classy player
Mills 5 - despite the goal I thought he was less than convincing
Pearce - 6 - looked the more accomplished of the two
Rose - 6 - thought he did ok
Cisse - 5 - thought he was a bit anonymous today
Karacan - 7 - bright and energetic - a star of the future
Tabb - 6 - thought he did quite well and could have scored
Sigurdsson - 8 - my MOTM for us. Excellent game and the only one who created anything.
Long - 5 - fed off scraps and never looked like scoring
Hunt - 5 the same as Long

Davies - 6 - thought he looked good when he came on and made a passes that so nearly split their defense.
Church - 4 - not convinced - think he needs a season a division lower

We may well be a new team, have a new manager, have new tactics, new coaches, and be completely new, but there is nothing escaping the fact that results are just as important at the start of a season as they are at the end. You can't afford to rest on your laurels in this game whatsoever, and by that I mean that we can't just think "oh, it'll all be better in 3 months time", because if we do the confidence will drain from the side even further after it's latest 2 or 3 goal defeat at Derby. We're worried because we feel like we're currently spiralling downwards and if we don't get some measure of control then things could turn disastrous. Things can be as promising, as transitional, or as new as you like, but that doesn't detract from the fact that the results so far have been poor, and the performances getting poorer by the game.

So. as a rough percentage of games against them?

Might be mistaken, but I thought that we generally didn't lose against them.

John Madejski's Wallet Can I just say that Mills looks like a useless sack of sh*te.

Let the player in front of him for a shot in the first couple of mins. awful backpass to Fed....... and EVERY sodding defensive header dropped lamely to an onrushing sheff utd player

A few lose passes, but are you blind? he looked quality at times, some of his passing in the first half was brilliant, i think him and Pearce will form a great defensive partnership and both have good distribution.

I must be.... as I certainly saw little today that even remotely smacked of quality.

And passing?? He made most of the worst errors of the whole game by trying to pass into midfield and on numerous occassions giving possession to their closest player. A couple in the 1st half set up sheff utd breaks

He doesn't get any of the profit. That would be illegal.

You're right - I'm sure that he hasn't gone down the Mike Lewis route of (allegedly) taking brown paper bags to the Ticket office/Megastore.but I'm sure that there are plenty of creative Accountants

And a multi millionaire would need to imbezzle from a football club he saved 20 years ago, and bankrolled for 16 years before we ever got the PL why?

Mr Mad wouldn't do that. Sorry to burst this little Madejski hate session, but the guy has done more for the club than anyone.

I agree with the praise for Gylfi, he looks like a decent player, the only other positives were Tabb and Plastic on the left but we hardly ever used them despite the space that was there.

After the game I couldn't believe BRs post match comments, he will lose the fans pretty quickly if he takes positives from a 3-1 defeat at home. We are relegation material unless he changes something - but I haven't got a clue where we go from here.

Oh, and forget Smith, he will help but I don't think he's the solution.

I'm not saying that there aren't certain methods he could use for getting money out, just that he wouldn't.

And if you don't think that Madejski has done wonders for the club, then I'm sorry to say that you are a short-sighted, ungrateful, spoilt prick.
