Personally I would go with a squad of 22 plus 3 keepers, 2 for each position and a spare keeper.

Honesty from the lad.

Just as I am happy with - assessing the squad, tightening up and then working with a tight group to get results.

That's exactly what he's been doing so far and I am happy for it to continue all season.

It might be a rubbish season but we will hopefully reap the rewards when he sorts it out.

We're only Reading fans.

Since I stopped leading chants in the Southbank and the East stand it seems all we can do is replicate the same three chants.

Beggars can't be choosers! :P

In principle, thinning the first-team squad's a good idea. In practice, everyone's much of a muchness, so how could it be done logically? I think Rodgers should continue with the present squad, and when the team starts to win (or if  ), whittle it down as he goes along--so that the most successful group is left. There's no point in leaving the solid likes of Cisse and Tabb out of the squad unless and until it is proved conclusively that others are better.

Reading boss Brendan Rodgers set for clear-out

By MirrorFootball

Reading boss Brendan Rodgers is planning to trim his squad by sending at least five players out on loan.

He feels there are too many squad members at the club and Dave Mooney, Julian Kelly, Scott Davies, Michail Antonio and Jay Tabb could all find themselves heading out soon.

Rodgers said: “Over the next couple of weeks I need to trim the squad.

“I inherited big numbers when I came here, and I wanted to be fair to give everyone a chance. I have an idea of the squad now.”

Kelly - good for us and him
Antonio - good for us and him
Mooney - hmm, ok for us and him
Davies - pros and cons either way
Tabb - I can think of at least one player I'd rather went and I don't even rate Tabb that highly.

I think once the window opens in January that the likes of cisse tabb matejovsky long and some other will go. In the summer it will be gunnarsson kebe ingimaisson going .and not forgetting chris armstrong.

unless these rich people come

If we managed to sustain the wages of pre promotion, there is no reason for us to reduce the wages to a pittance now. Surely the point from now on is getting rid of the players we don't want anymore, not just anyone at the top of the wage earners.

If Ivar goes in the summer it'll be because we don't think he'll be playing regularly and he/we don't want him as an expensive bench warmer. We've only got Bertrand for a year, so no erason to get rid of Armstrong without an equally good replacement.

If Long doesn't produce he'd rightly be moved on, same for Matejovsky. We've got too many midfielders and Tabb, Cisse & Gunnarsson aren't all needed as back up for Karacan. We won't ditch Kebe unless the price is fantastic or we can get someone more reliable.

Talk about over reacting. We've restructured, not panic sold to pay off unsustainable debts that are about to see us go under.

i dont think it is over reacting. i think it,s realistic, as we will have to sell to buy and the way the club is going though change i think they will cash in

Wd have the makings of a decent team in the squad, but only if the younger players like Church and Davies are able to step up to the level expected. If not then the journeymen bought in will start to struggle, Mills is the one to watch i hope he starts playing again soon.

Agreed. Seems odd to spend £2M, (a huge amount of money for us), on a player whose position appeared to have a degree of cover, then not play him.

IMO he'll play if Ivar or O'Dea get injured / suspended, or if O'Dea goes in January.
