morganb
Zip We now have four senior centre backs for next season under contract. Obvs this includes Moore. Not sure what the situation is with Dorsett. Jnr thinks he is under contract with us.

This was being circulated on Twitter earlier in the week:

CLUB LIST OF REGISTERED PLAYERS
AS AT 21st May 2022

https://www.efl.com/clubs-and-competiti ... d-numbers/

Page 35 is Reading

Dorsett is on the list and does not have an (o) ...

From the Key:

(o) indicates players who are under
the age of 24 years, whose current
contracts expire on 30th June 2022 and
to whom the club has made an offer of
re-engagement

(Out of contract players aged 24 and over are not on this list)

Therefore it looks like Dorsett is under contract

Yep that was where Jnr was referring to. So that’s another centre back in place and one who I hope can step us this season.

Snowflake Royal
Stranded
Snowflake Royal Close to that. Sure, why not? The squad is pretty bare and we're expecting to sign 2 shortly.

Assuming the following:

Lumley and Holmes are done and we start with the current retained list including those with an offer, then as of today our first XI on 30th July could look something like:

Lumley

Holmes
Dann
Moore

McIntyre
Tetek

Azeez
Ejaria
Meite

Joao
Puscas

That isn't hideous - it ain't great either but as a first XI, staying up would be doable.

If we can add 6 to that, Yiadom may be one, and use the likes of Camara, Dorsett and Clarke as back-ups, we could have an OK squad.

Gone with 3-5-2 (or 3-2-3-2) as we have no full backs.

It's pretty hideous.

I think hideous is being polite.
That's downright relegation....5+ of those players won't manage 20 plus games.

Saw the Twitter stuff about Dorsett - would like it confirmed and not Just a possible typo

Good news if he stays and we’re actually fairly well stocked now at CB

Numbers, not sure about quality. But Dorsett staying would be nice. Hope to see him play.

Good news about Yiadom and pleased to see Holmes re-sign.

We still in my opinion need another centre half (quality one) assuming that Moore goes and cover for right back if Yids gets injured and a left back to complete our defence.

Defence was a massive problem last season so something Bowen and Ince need to address. I worry that we'll struggle for goals with Swift gone and likely João off too. Replacing the pair with the same effectiveness on the team will be hard.

It would be good if we could get Rino to sign but I am fully expecting him to go elsewhere. We need 2 LBs, 1 RB, 1 CB, 2 CM if Rino goes and possibly 2 CFs if we lose Joao and Puscas. I am expecting Tom Ince to sign and it sounds like Lumley will be signing soon.

Not too concerned for RB with Yiadom, Holmes and Abrefa in the squad.

Glad that both Yids and Holmes have signed on and for significant time, it put to bed the theory of us only being able to offer 12 month deals as per last summer.

Hopefully we can tie down both Rino and Hoilett now and I'll be feeling more positive about bringing players in to supplement the squad and what we need and hopefully we can shift Moore, Joao and Puscas on and bring in whatever is necessary from that as well. Still very early days in the window, it's been a bit of a tough start, as anticipated, but I'm feeling more confident that we can look ahead now.

I'd like to see a lot of Imari Samuels over pre season as he could be a good understudy at left back

Get Reading are reporting Rino could be off to Stoke and Hoilett going for one last payday to the MLS. We seem to begetting weaker by the day.

Christ Stoke seem to be seriously strengthening. How the hell are they able to afford it given their huge losses?

To be fair, Laurent and Rino were not exactly premium paid players for ourselves if reported wages are to be believed, so they could quite easily outbid us in that department and wouldn't have to offer anything in excess of £15k which is a good wage at this level and it's certainly a step up as well.

With the likes of Chester, Fletcher, Ince (who was earning something daft like £30k a week) and Smith leaving, they've probably freed up a big proportion of their wage bill there as well as Joe Allen who is rumoured to be leaving as well.

Not seen anything about Rino going to Stoke. I would like him to stay but after the last 18 months I am not too bothered about anyone leaving tbh. We all know next season will be really tough and we need players that want to be here and will leave nothing on the pitch.

Considering we’ve been rubbish for 18 months, not sure recruiting that midfield is really the way to go for Stoke

Wouldn’t be massively bothered by Rino going tbh. Think he’s been very average for quite a while

Wasn't helped by our managers deciding he was a RWer and pushing him forward.

That was just dreadful from Pauno.
I still quite like Rino. He is a bit limited but does a job for us.

It would be a shame to see both go because they formed a pretty solid partnership, but I'm less bothered by Rino, would have rather us kept Laurent. Laurent offers more and we didn't have Rino for large parts of last season and we got by, we could hand that opportunity to McIntyre or Tetek in midfield.

Stoke would have a good partnership with two good midfielders at this level. They won't take them up or anything though.

Stoke would also have Lewis Baker so a pretty good midfield.

The last double swoop Stoke made for our players was a resounding success, wasn't it?

Cannot see Stoke taking both but happy to be proven wrong.

I still think by the end of the window, fans will be surprised by the quality of players we have been able to attract in our situation. Even last season, we attracted premier league winners, a striker who was bout for £35 million and a international left back who was signed for circa £35 million not so long ago…

These season we will have cleared over 100k a week with players leaving, although transfer fees may not be re-invested, the players wages and the fee will go to working down to that £16 million figure.

I agree, another centre half, both full back positions, centre midfield, one wide player and another striker is the minimum expectation for the rest of the window
