brendywendy so NH is going to oxf*rd over BMcD and sell a player to a rival under his nose, after McD has repeatedly and specifically said he will not go unless its premiere league bound?
reeeeaaallly?

If that happened he would be pissed off i agree.

Of course they'll take the money if it's the right deal irrespective of which league the bidding clubs comes from.

I can almost hear the "it's not what we wanted but it was too good a deal to turn down" type quotes cowing out already.

Like Wycombe, I'm not really too fussed who buys him as such, as long as they pay enough money for him and ideally McDermott is given some funds to strengthen where he wants.

I would rather get £8m for Long now than £4m in January or worst still nothing next season meaning we still have to sell a major "stars"

I'm sure it's been quoted elsewhere but:

"Reading will not buy if Shane Long leaves - McDermott"

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/r/reading/9551282.stm

Looks like that's it for our summer of signings then.

Even if we get coin for him now, we will still have to sell a star next year anyway...

Gylfi was sold for near 8 million, alas - we still had a hole to fill this year...

If BM was not going to receive any money from the Long sale at all, I would rather him go on a free next year, and have him play for us and see how we fair...

In all likelyhood, if he stays, he will sign an extension, with a fair and realistic sell on clause... As he mysteriously does not have one now...

Well done on quoting the headline, which bears oxf*rd all resemblence to what McDermott actually said.

My Newcastle supporting colleague, whose Dad is allegedly friends with someone on the NUFC board, seems to think that he is going to them and a bid will be made by the end of the week.

Would rather that than any of the other teams being mentioned.

With Barton being told his presence is no longer required there, Long to Newcastle could be a good bet.

Why - are they intending to play him in midfield ?

LOL...no, I doubt they'll have Long fill in at Barton's position.

But they'll probably feel a need to bring in someone who is a threat in the final third to make up offensively for what they'll lose with Barton going. And Shane is that kinda threat. Plus they've been looking at him on and off for a while now. Just got a feeling on this one...prolly just gas but a feeling nonetheless.

Has anyone noticed how often it's the Daily Mail who has rumours about Shane Long? I'd say at least 75% of the rumours about him on BBC Sport have been from there. Have they got some kind of hotline to him or something?

Fordham on Twitter:

Sven's #lcfc #foxes to bid £7m for Long. May prompt #wba to show their hand in race for #readingfc striker. Possible #nufc come in too

I suppose SJM is the only one connected with RFC who isn't getting a little Oxf&rd off with Sven at the moment.

The Sun are today reporting Leicester will bid £7.5mil and that's their maximum. It's thought Sven has made a special request to the board for the extra funds as originally they were only going up to £6mil i've heard

This is cobblers.

Its up to Reading FC to accept or turn down offers, not Shane.

Once RFC has accepted an offer, then the player can discuss personal terms.

I haven't seen any evidence that RFC has accepted an offer from anyone for Shane as of yet.

Of course, the DaiLOLy MaiLOL could be suggesting that Shane has been illegally approached by both of these teams......

Well done to Fordham for reading the papers and tweeting a collective brief!

Take £7m + Waghorn from Leicester

Or

£6m + Cox from WBA

I really hope he goes to the Prem this season or stays with us!

£7m plus Waghorn is greedy. But obviously would be delighted with it.

I'd actually take £5m plus Waghorn or Cox.

What I don't want is straight cash. We wont see any of it, so it really needs to be a player plus cash deal.

a deal involving waghorn would soften the blow a bit i suppose. always thought he looked a good player. still cant believe that, for whatever reason , we are selling good players to our rivals.just hope something is sorted before a ball is kicked in anger so at least the loyal fans who have stumped up for season tickets will have a bit more of an idea of how the clubs ambitions,(or lack of!) lie.

Are we "selling players to our rivals" - or are we just unable to stop players leaving when our rivals tempt them with what are ludicrous offers and salaries for this level of the game?
