Back from the game - Forest

Nothing much to say about a game so desperately devoid of quality, so here is a picture of some kittens to cheer us all up:

Back from the Game - Forest (H)

by LoyalRoyalFan » 21 Aug 2010 18:38

Not the best display from either teams. Federici blunder aside, he made some impressive saves and can't be blamed for our performance/result today.

Man of the Match was Brian Howard who worked very well in midfield, getting forward and getting back in defence.
The defence was solid today and why do we insist on playing long-ball football when the opposing defenders are massive?

Questions need to be asked about Karacan and Williams though.

Actually though Karacan was one of our better players.

Why does Shane Long keep playing on the wing when he's our only striker up front :|

I agree re. Williams first half but thought he did alright second half. Same with Karacan really.

Not quite sure why.

I like Karacan's personality and energy, sadly thats about all he has. He continues to give the ball away whether it be a long pass or a simple short one. If you play a defensive midfielder in your side their job is to break up play, retain possession and pass to someone more creative. Sadly, he doesn't break up play that much despite a lot of chasing down and when he does get the ball he gives it away way too much for someone playing that roll.

Long is another weakness. He never looks likely to score and his first touch just isn't very good. He cannot be our hope for goals this season. He did some good things today but as usual the easy things completely wrong.

Williams, needs more time to settle in but not impressed so far - but if you wanted to watch a good left back at work..he was playing for Forest today, marked kebe out of the game other than one foul on him. Anyone remember his name?

Positive player of the day was Brynjar - just proves why we still need him at the club and his critics can sod off IMO - clearly shows he's worth his place in our side consistently.

Pompey are in administration yet can bring in a centre back on loan. Meanwhile at Reading its another one out and no one in, despite being better off financially that portsmouth by light years. Oh and our right back is now injured for a few weeks and guess what guys NO COVER....where have we seen that before?

In for a bad season im afraid folks.

Agree - look at Watford last season; apparently in real trouble financially, but can still sign 3-4 decent players on loan which helped them do really well first half of season ... and survive in the league. But that's not the Reading way isn't it ....

Jem Karacan is fast becoming our new James Harper - what influence did he hold on the game especially at 1-1??.Its not even as if he is that great a tackler, Tabb coming back from injury is a must. At least Howard took some initiative with some decent attacking play. Siggurdson was a little lost today in the midfield hole, though a great effort that went very close. Williams reminds me of Betrand's start at RFC, unconvincing for now but hopefully will learn as time goes on, he is even more left footed than Shorey though!! Worrrying that Griffin taken off given our paper thin defensive options, gunnarson put a lot of effort in but that will only get so far. Basic sloppy mistakes have cost us goals and i feel that the team need a shot of confidence somehow, a new cb would really act as a tonic but the purse strings have been tightened at the wrong time. We also have a continuing problem up front, one up front is fine in essence but to use long who tends to drift wide is not very helpful when there is no one left in the middle.Church must be given the opportunity to fulfil that role if Mcdermott choses to continue so that we can start putting balls through to him and use his pace. I agree that 2 up front should be employed, especially at home but currently i dont think we have two decent enough strikers that can work together-clearly as we have hardly used any of our strikers in a pairing for a long time now.

you can clearly tell that then team we were at the end of last season, can't play the same due to Williams being a fairly average left back, not really getting up to support Jobi and he wins very little headers. Today we played much better in the second half, did some nice moves, but there was a lack of support down the wings. To me Gunnarsson did lots more link play with Kebe than Williams did with Jobi, which is disappointing as down the left we was such a threat at the back end of the season.

I was encouraged second half, and with a bit of the rub of the green we will be climbing the table. Forest were second favourites at start of tournament and will be there or thereabouts.

In words of McDermott, we are simmering. Have faith.

Don't really understand why people are slagging off Federici on Radio Berkshire etc.

Federici is clearly our best keeper and kept us in the game.
