I moaned like a big girl's blouse when he was appointed.

I am now delighted with him.

Top bloke, top manager.

WELL DONE BRIAN.

Snowball The Gaffer has been in charge, now, for 40 Games and won half of them

Counting the Northampton game as a defeat

P40 W20 D9 L11 72-51 = "69 Points" = 1.725 ppg = 79 Point Season = 3rd 2009-10 season

UPDATE after Doncaster Game

P45 W22 D10 L13 81-57 = 76 Points = 1.69 points per game = 77/78 point season 48.89% WINS All Games Including Cups

P37 W19 D07 L11 68-44 = 64 Points = 1.73 points per game = 79/80 point season 51.37% WINS League Only

PEARCEY
brendywendy you cannot deny that winning half of your first 40 games in proffesional management, with a team being rebuilt, and using alot of kids is great going.
stat hater or not

Its exceptional. He's done superbly.

Agreed, Mac has done a superb job.

Totally. I'm not sure what the point of points projections are, the Played, Won, Lost, Drawn, For and Against speaks for itself without further extrapolation.

A quick way of understanding what (for example) 1.673 ppg equates to

Brian has been amazing.

Given what he's had to work with he's been absolutely unbelievable!

And more to the point - he didn't need to almost take us down in half-season's worth of "preseason" to achieve it!

LONG LIVE BRIAN!!!!

A lot more amazing if you consider he started with two 1-1 draws and a 2-1 and 4-1 defeat

But then he got them playing

From his first win (for illustration only)

P33 W19 D05 L09 64-36 = 62 Points = 1.88 points per game = 86.42 point season 57.57% WINS League Only

A pointless illustration. You would not have removed his first 3 games had they not been poor results. They all counts, and his overall performance holds up without the need to artificially 'illustrate' his performance.

I dithagree Gwath-hoppa.

A new manager needs time to instill HIS beliefs into his team, and the players were bound to be carrying a hangover from the Rodgers era.

PS I removed FOUR games

PPS It's COUNT, not counts

PPPS I think it is perfectly reasonable for me, or a manager, or a journalist to say something like:

"Brian McDermott inherited a team that was all over the place and low on confidence. It took him
a few games to get his first win but his record since that day at 3PM is..."

PPPS Gwath-hoppa, you...

I think it can go both ways.

It's not unreasonable to remove the very first few results but to be fairer you should include all of course.

All pointless though, because in any case he's awesome.

And as I said, you would not have chosen to remove an arbitrary number of games (why not three or five?) had Reading won them all.

2 world wars, 1 world cup I think it can go both ways.

I did BOTH, WW2. Gwath-hoppa is just getting desperate.

Personally I believe there's an argument for saying something of the kind, "A new manager is judged from game X onwards."

Gonna have to say I agree with snowball's intention here, given the hand McDermott was dealt with I think it's reasonable to take the first few games off as a comparison. Generally I'd not include cup games because they are a different beast against varying quality of opposition.

I'd have taken out the first 5 league games (Rodgers' extra preseason  ), mind you, having checked that would look even more selective as it ignores all the duff results and cuts straight to the beginning of winning ways, and is obviously compicated by ignoring the Liverpool factor. :D
