Spotted - Paul Black

by PieEater » 21 Nov 2010 09:57

I don't know him, but in tribute to Reading's number one fan I think we should do a regular spotted thread at away games.

So spotted drinking a coffee in Vicarage Road.

The "Paul Black Bet" has been a regular feature of away games for many years now with me and my mates....5 pounds for the first confirmed sighting!
The best one for me was at Scunthorpe when we were sitting in the plastic pub near the ground and I casually looked out of the window to see him stroll past in his famous check jacket, 1 hour before we even entered the ground.

Wondered if he's insured against missing a game or if anybody has considered kidknapping him for a couple of hours so he breaks his run - or just making him late?

How long is his run now?

He's been going to away games as long as I can remember - my first away game was 1978

I remember him in the Tilehurst end in the 70's. In those days he used to wear the scarf of the visiting team. Workington, Southport etc.

I guess he's abandoned that now?

How many games is he up to now? If we ever have a museum I reckon that coat should have pride of place.

He is 60 - he's got the Senior RaiLOLcard to prove it!!!

And I think he's on the mend - slowly but surely. Saw him at the Norwich game and he seemed in good spirits.

remember paul black (and his chums) singing Irish Republican songs at that Cleethorpes place formerly known as Grimsby Town back in 1987.

We lost 3-2...Kevin Bremner scoring our second (his gap-toothed smile being the highlight of the day)

At that time a serving soldier (on leave from NI), I have never embraced the admiration that most of you seemingly have for this Paul Black fellah.

but it was a long time ago.................

I usually miss one or two games a season and the hat only comes out when it's cold. Cheers though!

Jeff was on good form at Watford.
