Ingimarsson? What's he like?

by ITFC_Keane » 10 Jun 2011 22:01

Hi folks

Reports in deepest Suffolk would suggest we're signing Ivar Ingimarsson on a free. Now, you all know me, I'm not one to gloat and all that, just genuinely interested in your opinion of the bloke. Will he add something to our team? Is he a decent bet for another season of Championship footy?

Thanks

And to confirm the last bit, he's the name I got on my shirt last year. Number too!

And not just because I wanted value for money.

I love Icelandics, I do.

Great player in his time, although I fear his legs have gone. The last few games he played for us he was woeful and was consequently dropped.

Fantastic move for him if it pays off, I'd have seen him going down a division or two or even retiring.

Hmmmm....I think he's past his best plus he's prone to pick up injuries these days. Maybe a back-up player but I don't think he should be anything more than that.

Cheers! We've just signed Chopra from Cardiff for £1.5 million, Ivar, Pearce from Bournemouth, Cresswell from Tranmere, James Coppinger from Donny, and expected to bid for Sharp from Donny again and/or Colace from Barnsley.

Have/are you signed/signing anyone yet?

Love the guy. Was a top top Premiership player. I fear his best days are gone, and glad he did leave, but would love to be proved wrong. True professional. The Icelandic salmon.

I think he can still hack it at this level. Had a mare away at Palace but apart from that he was his usual reliable self.

Don't listen to the people on this thread who say Ivar is past it. Our run of 8gains in a row started with Mills at centre back alongside Khiz. In the 2nd game, Mills went off injured after 16 mins & Ivar came in.

Ivar played the next 6 league games, which were all wins. For some reason that I never understood, Ivar was dropped and Mills came in for the 8th game. It was no coincidence our form dropped when Mills replaced Ivar... although we did win the 8th game.

Ivar is still a good defender at this level. You don't realise how good he is until he's not in the team. Would you swap him for Mills?!

What about Legs? Surely we have ACTUALLY signed a player?

On Ivar, I still think he can do a job at this level but from a money point of view, we're looking to invest into the future of the club therefore we've let him go. Fair play to him wanting to play week in week out and not settling for a bit part. I guess at his age/injuries he knows the end is in sight so wants to make the most of it.
