CLAPPING CHANT

by RFC13LHR » 19 Aug 2011 16:52

Those who ventured to Portsmouth must have noticed the effect of their clapping chant

Now as all our chants are stolem, why don't we steal this and modify

The real words are (according to Amercian Scout Songs

When Johnny comes marching home again,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll give him a hearty welcome then
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The men will cheer and the boys will shout
The ladies they will all turn out
And we'll all feel gay when Johnny comes marching home

(hence the need to modify!)

Reading tend to make all chants too fast but this needs to be at as written pace

Pompey do this a a clapping routine with la-la sounds rather than words

The effect was good whenver this was started and all three stands got on board and it went several rotations - the noise level was quite intense and was very hard for the Reading to override with their songs

Maybe the suppliers of music for Compo's Song book could have a play and maybe make this our own

i now wait for the standard abuse for low posts but this is offered as we need 4 or 5 Reading chants that have some volume (and will keep us warm in the winter)

I would love Reading to have an easy song which everyone can clap along too but for it too also be catchy and one that you can sing for quite a long time and drown out the opposition fans songs.

Such as..

The Great Escape
The one that people started at Millwall away last year- So happy together
etc etc

+1 for So Happy Together. Youtube vid of (I think it was) Feyernoord fans singing that has been put up on here in one of the many chants/club song threads, and it sounds great, is easy to learn and has good drowning out potential.

Yeah, PSV fans did it, heres the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAHEZrX6mSA

Also, as far as I'm aware, no English clubs do this. Would be really good to get this going.

i would rather we stopped the clapping all together and just found our voices instead. our vocal support is pretty naff in comparison to many clubs. no imagination what so ever, no variety in chants, not enough join in and want to make it their business to outsing the opposition supporters. we just turn up, eat and drink in our seat, clap and go home.

In for So Happy Together and anything loud and catchy. Except the Clap. It does get so frustrating trying to get things going and you get nothing back but a confused look.

Oh and to the OP, the original is an Irish war song called 'Johnny I hardly knew you'

Sorry, I don't believe for a second that Pompey have more than one song. You just made this up.

I think a few tried to start it in y25 last season, with little success.....well worth starting again though.
