Don't think we're too far away from a competitive season.
Didn't go to Hull, but from the games I've seen we haven't been battered.
Off the pitch yes mind.

It's good timing in the sense that we'll have some time to bed in the new signings and work on getting a couple of players over their niggly knocks.

At the same time though perhaps it will lessen the likelihood McDermott making changes to the side that some think are required because the wounds from the last couple of performances may well have healed.

Be interesting to see if the likes of Mills and Le Fondre work their way into the side between now and the Watford game.

It's mostly good for Alfie, as he has time to meet everyone and train with them before playing.

I think it's good, gives us a chance to re-focus, bring the new signings up to speed and work on the issues.

I'd like to see Harte dropped and Mills in, Griffin dropped for Cummings if he isn't 100% fit, and Le Fondre straight into the side.

I'd quite like McDermott to also look at a few different ways of playing. Preferably more on the deck passing, maybe McAnuff / Howard central as an attacking midfielder in a 4-2-3-1, HRK & Kebe as wide forwards. I'd like him to look at whether Karacan could do a better job at right back than Griffin or Cummings and whether Howard could come into the middle and give us more creativity in the 4-4-2 there.

Assuming he hasn't already done this.

Surprisingly agree with most apart from the fact that Howard's time at the club is at an end and has never really sparkled for us and moving our best centre mid to right back is not an option and would weaken the team.

But yes to mills, cummings and le fondre straight into the team.

It comes down to the fact I fundamentally dislike playing two defensively minded midfielders in a 4-4-2 (especially withoput overlapping fullbacks) when neither have a good scoring record.

That feeds in to moving Karacan as I think he could be a really excellent RB and Ledge is a bit more of a complete midfielder. His passing is a bit better and he's a bit calmer and stronger, though not as athletic. Unfortunately Ledge is off the boil at the moment with some quite sloppy passing and a hint of lethagy.

Howard, I quite like, but he's never really got going quite well enough I agree, he's the only real creative central midfielder we have though. I'm not convinced he doesn't have anything left to offer, but it doesn't look good. Bar two good shots against Charlton he didn't do himself any good at all.

couldn't agree more. perfect for the three new signings to settle in as well. time to regroup, work hard on the training ground and then come out fully charged against watford next week. great chance for 6 points coming up with the home games back to back against sides we should really expect to beat.

And how much time will Gorkss get to do that when on International duty? Federici is barely going to be around either, so not much opportunity for the back 5 to integrate, and even less if you count Khumalo as being part of it.

Terminal Boardom When was the last time that we actually beat Watford?

Jan 09 when Rodgers was manager. 4-0 thumping. Good game.

Or Sep & Dec 2004, Nov 2003

This international break is great news. It's still more than 10 days until I have to sit through 90 minutes of dire 'football' at the Madejski again.

Must admit to having forgotten about the 4-0 drubbing. The point I was trying to make is that our record against them is fairly shit.
