Back From The Game - Coventry Away

by LWJ » 24 Sep 2011 19:08

Meh we weren't amazing but i've seen us play worse. Our midfield is pretty shambolic, it offers us nothing going forward and they sit so far back Coventry looked like Barca at times passing it around with so much time. Fans were alright from our perspective, though i sat in the middle of the noisier group so it may of sounded louder than we were. PLEASE stop singing the Kanu song before he is even on. If you put as much effort into supporting the 11 on the pitch it would be so much better.

just seen the goal on SSN, and Federici should never ever be beaten from that angle at his near post. Good reverse from ALF for our goal. Didn't show the pens though.

The only good things i remember about the ricoh are the casino under the ground and £2.50 a pint of lager on match day.

Poor performance. Midfield was very weak and couldn't string two passes together all game, although Tabb did a good job. No threat from wide positions. Coventry were a poor team who we should be beating if were going to get anywhere in this division. Noel Hunt was atrocious. He is not a winger. Mcdermott must be losing it by praising him. His penalty was abysmal. Church and Le Fondre linked up well, depsite terrible service. Too many long balls, and Leigertwoods long ball half way through the second half to no-one summed it up.

Other than penalty in last minute our defence looked pretty solid. Mills and Cummings at least offer some movement and Pearce even played ok. Again though Federici had to make a good save after the ball went through the wall. Ground was soulless and like a library for long periods.

Overall satisfied with the draw, although Coventry were poor. Church can now finally be called prolific which I never thought I would say. Hunt however should never play right wing again, and certainly should never take another penalty.

I think the comments on our midfield so far are a bit harsh. I thought Tabb put in a really good shift and Legs was steady and no they are not the greatest going forward
but the passing was good in spells and then we looked a bit more like scoring. I agree when they punted it forward it looked ugly. Without an in form Jimmy we are going to struggle but Church and ALF up front began to look more like a threat than I expected. Jobi is always frustrating ..drifting in and out of the game. Cov certainly showed us how to shoot on target and if we had done as well from the positions we got in to we would have won comfortably. I am sure Fed will be gutted about their goal but from my angle it was just a freak blast that was perfect. Their other shots were good but not as good as that one. I heard people moaning about Mills on the way out but i thought he was a lot better than last week and needs a run in the team to get some confidence. Pearce was the one that causes me concern with wayward passes.

Far too exaggerated a set of opinions from Carlos. Hunt's pen was a decent one. You'll see far worse go in. It produced a superb save from their 'keeper. Ok, it was hit a few inches too high but 9 times out of 10 a pen like that would go in. The team played well most of the time, just not incisive enough when within 20 yards of the goal. Cov looked a decent side. We'll come across a lot worse this season. At times they looked like a side going down but overall they provided tough opposition. Unfortunately, Mills is no Shorey. I can see that being a weak position for us for some time. Also, L'Wood isn't last season's player. Hunt isn't a winger but he did Ok. Church worked his bollox off again. All in all, a decent point.

Oh, one other thing - best refereeing performance I've seen for many a long year. Didn't put a foot wrong and stayed in the background. Allowed the game to continue. Simply superb performanace from the ref.

Hunt's pen was a decent one? He stops to let the keeper dive and see which way he's going and then puts it that way! Normally if you wait and see which way the keeper is going you at least try to put it a different way.

People at the game - did it look like we needed two holding midfielders? Wasn't at the game today but I really think the way forward is to play a more creative CM, someone who can play the killer through balls up top and generally support the attack rather than two who sit back and protect our back four.

Anyone thinking Jem should be included in the squad of late? I'm thinking Legs is due a dropping. He just hasn't shown anything of note this season so far!?

Hunt has put on his twitter that he's never taking a Reading Pen again! Reckon Alfie willl have them now.

We had better buy one then !

and as we were right at the tesco end a brisk walk across the car park meant missing the inevitable bedlam in the TESCO car park even after clapping the team off.
Good thinking having a free car park 200 yards from the ground..their stewards did not seem to be enforcing any charges (if you had a receipt ?)

And Fed did not make a mistake but he will still think he should have stopped it BUT it was a blockbuster.

Mr Howard sitting on the bench, moving Jobi into the middle and sticking HRK out on the wing, hell, even giving one of the youngsters a chance! Just think the fact that we play two CMs with no attacking instinct at all really limits the amount of chances we actually get on goal!

I agree in principle but don;t think Howard or McAnuff fit the bill and we would get overrun defensively.
