Dominic Samuel

by Dare to Dr£am » 30 Jan 2012 12:31

Another hat-trick, this time against Spurs. The kid is going to be one hell of a player.

I know we don't tend to throw kids in but when we're talking about the Sharp's and the Rhodes of the football league, why not give this kid a go? He has buckets of pace and scores for fun at youth level, and that isn't to be sniffed at so likely. It's a tough league we're in and we're pushing for the title this season.

Is he on a professional contract yet, and if so how long is on it? There will be a lot of admires out there.

still not sure he is ready for the full time yet, watched him in the youth cup, and i think the occasion got to him. Only 17 though plenty of time

Having seen him the youth cup game I think he will be a star but he has quite a slight physique and at 17 it would be unfair to expect him to step up.

Obita on the other hand can step up more quickly as he has much better physical attributes.

How do some of our other plays look? Did anyone apart from Obita stand out?

There are several good young players but none ready to step up yet other than possibly Obita.

Slightly off topic but has anyone got the info on how old the academy players have been when they made their debut for the first team? I have a feeling most of them broke through relatively late.

we tend to wait until they are 19/20 before involving them in reserve/cup matches.

Most don't look like establishing themselves until they are 21/22.

He looks mustard.

Another striker on our books really - I can see all of Church, Baseya, Manset, Williams, Bignall, maybe even Hunt leaving in the summer.

Neville Roach scored for fun at youth / reserve level. Better to send him out on loan to get League experience. He sounds like he should be on loan somewhere next season though.

can't see church going, definitely one of our best strikers. Agreed on the others.

when you look at 3-4 of them being ones for the future/punts, then yes he is, but if you look at the strikers we use, church is by far and away the worst (roberts, le fondre, hunt, church)

Obita was okay that game. Thought Craig Tanner was the best player for Reading to be honest.

IMO, Edwards looked better than Obita. Yes he ran and had the skills but he weren't half selfish!

Bit of an odd comment. Some are in some positions but the very best aren't.

Anyway, I think Samuel is a good prospect but watching him in the Youth Cup game he looked quite a way short of being ready for first team football. That might've been a relatively poor game for him but I'd be surprised if he was involved this season.

Scores again for the reserves. Playing a lot of games recently for both youth and res'. I like him! #goalmachine
