Platypuss
Snowball Reflecting for a moment, we are virtually guaranteed to finish top three, our 4th-best finish in our history

Third would be our 5th best, surely?

2006/07 - 8th Tier One
2007/08 - 18th Tier One
2005/06 - 1st Tier Two
1994/95 - 2nd Tier Two
2002/03 - 4th Tier Two
2008/09 - 4th Tier Two
2010/11 - 5th Tier Two
2004/05 - 7th Tier Two
2003/04 - 9th Tier Two
2009/10 - 9th Tier Two

Would be the current top ten I believe? Shows how phenominally successful the last 10 years have been for us. Nine of our ten best finishes in 140 years!

Depends how you measure it. 2nd in Tier 2 in 1995 meant 24th in the country, whilst 3rd in Tier 2 in 2012 would mean 23rd in the country. You could even argue that the highest position of all those clubs not either in Tier 1 or automatically promoted to Tier 1 would make the two equal.

All academic of course.

In one sense, yes, but I can't rate RELEGATED from the tier above "better"
than (say) finishing high in the tier below.

Wimb Snowwers is fine to keep his stats and present them the way he feels like it, I don't agree with all of the methodology but they are at the very least a good jumping off point for discussion. He's been shackled (mostly) to this one thread so leave him be.

If that was aimed at me, my post was purely factual and explanatory.

Wasn't aimed at anyone in particular tbf! Just enjoy the relative harmony that this thread has brought to the Team Board

"Form" may be irrelevant, except it gives a genuine measure of a team's quality
upon which we add bottle or nerve or heart (and the opposition quality)

We have had THREE teams this season.

Team A - The first-six games mess.
Team B - The team before Roberts
Team C - The team since Roberts

Team A Games 01-06 Played 06 Won 01 Drew 01 Lost 04 05-08 GD -03 0.67 ppg = 031 Point Season

Team B Games 07-27 Played 21 Won 11 Drew 05 Lost 05 29-19 GD +10 1.81 ppg = 083 Point Season

Team C Games 28-41 Played 14 Won 12 Drew 01 Lost 01 28-09 GD +19 2.643 ppg = 122 Point Season

Form Since September 17th.

Quite simply, results-wise, we are playing like champions

OS

McDermott's approach has made the Royals the best team in the League since the first six fixtures of the season,
and in assessing another amazing win - West Ham's first defeat in eleven games - he said, "I thought we showed
real belief, quality and resilience.

1 35 23-06-06 17 Clean Sheets 57-28 +29 75 2.14 ppg = 99 Point Season READING FC

2 34 18-09-07 14 Clean Sheets 57-30 +27 63 1.85 ppg = 85 Point Season Southampton

Snowball - you don't have any stats re: leading scorers in the championship during say the last 15 mins of games do you?

Surely we'd be near the top of that league?!

I seem to remember Blackpool being mentioned on TV recently as holding that honour. At a cursory glance I count they have 22 and we have 21 after yesterday. We do have 3 recorded as 75 minutes which if included would put us ahead. There may be others but I cannot be bothered to go through 22 more teams

Not near, no - at the top (for goal difference)
In the last 15 minutes we have scored 23 and conceded 6 (out of our totals of 62 and 36) followed by Birmingham (22f 9a).
BUT Birmingham are top of the "last 10 minutes" league (19f 4A compared to 15f and 3a for us)

In terms of goals scored in the last 15 Blackpool are the ones to watch - 25. But they have also shipped 14.

I see we still lag in the first half - 17 of our 62 in the first half.

I havent gone through every teams games for this - http://soccerstats.com/timing.asp?league=england2

73% of our goals in the 2nd half. That IMO is the sign of a mentally tough team.

It was way more than half an assist. You are going to have to refine it further

Given up to two assists can be awarded for each goal, although unusual to do so, that's a pretty nailed on case IMO.
