Team for Sunderland

by plroyals » 23 Aug 2012 13:02

So after a good performance against Chelsea do we stick with the same team for another tough away game. Roberts is back from suspension so should he start or be on the bench.

I would go back to the our normal formation and bring in Alf for Jem.

-Feds, Gunter, Pearce, Gorkss, Harte, Legs, Guthrie, McCleary, Jobi, Alf, Pog.

What would your team be?

Pog and Roberts up front - get on the end of all these long balls we seem to be playing

Federici
Gunter
Pearce
Gorkss
Harte
McCleary
Guthrie
Leigertwood
McAnuff
Pogrebnyak
Roberts

----

McCarthy, Mariappa, Tabb, Karacan, Robson Kanu, Le Fondre, Hunt.

Wouldn't start Alf. He's sh/t when he starts.

(although I'd see Robson Kanu changed for Kebe, if fit, and Tabb maybe miss out for Shorey or Cummings on the bench).

I think Roberts has a calf injury, not sure though.

^^ This. Cummings has earned a chance, and Gunter hasn't showered himself in glory. I still recon Gunts is the better player all told, but a bit of competition wouldn't hurt.

If Roberts is out then I'd change him for Hunt in my lineup and throw Church on the bench

Maybe this, and possibly Roberts up front with Pog, with Le Fondre to come off the bench when Pog tires. In Brian we trust.

Revert back to two upfront by bringing in ALF for Jem, rest Pog by bringing in Roberts if the big Russian's a bit knackered. Hard on Karacan, but he's going to have to get used to being a squad player now.

Agree with this change. I thought Gunter was terrible last night. Misplaced passes, giving the ball away and don't get me started on the penalty.

Not sure we will play one up front, think Roberts may come straight in. Jem to go bench as he played a long time last night and is only just coming back into the fold.

This, maybe Shorey if fit. Wasn't too thrilled with ALF or Hunt last night, but they were often crowded. ALF if Roberts doesn't come straight in. Also would like to see Pog for 90...

I wasn't there last night, and only saw the highlights on Sky. Was it really 'long ball' cos Pog's goal didn't look like that. Guthrie's goal (assisted by Cech) was from a free kick. Maybe I missed all the long balls, as apparently did the Sky reviewer and all the pundits who watched the game who said that for long periods we outplayed Chelsea at their own game.

-------------------------------------Taylor----------------------------------------
Gunter----------------Pearce-----------------Gorkks-------------------Shorey
McLeary--------------Leigertwood------Guthrie---------------------McAnuff
------------------------Roberts----------Pogrebnyak----------------------------

This will be a tough, physical test in front of a passionate crowd - no place for shrinking violets or those with shot confidence (Feds). I can't see Harte recovering in time hence the change to Shorey. Roberts and Pog will provide a stern test to Sunderland's CB's. Our defence will need to closely monitor Sessegnon who could cause us no end of trouble if given time and space to create.

There were a few balls but hardly long. More just trying to get to feed the wide men making runs. Shame more of them didn't come off because Jobi v Ivanavic was very one sided.

^^^I would HOPE we wouldn't bring Taylor on if taking Feds off is the decision. Seems pointless.

Feds

Gunter
Shorey
Pearce
Gorkks

Ledge
Guthrie
McCleary
Mcanuff

Pog
Roberts

This is dependant on Roberts being fit. Think it would be a game too far for Harte, and Karacan bearing in mind in mind how long he's been out
