6+ Goal Games

by reading_fan » 13 Dec 2012 12:18

Given that Arsenal is our next game, it occured to me this morning I've seen quite a few high scoring games over my time of watching Reading now, but by high scoring I mean from one side. So I started to run through a few of them in my head.

I've seen:
Reading 5-7 Arsenal (AET)
Spurs 6-4 Reading
Reading 6-0 Wham 8)
Reading 6-0 Sheff Wed
Reading 0-6 Brizzle Rovers - due to traffic problems we missed the first twenty mins of this, but none of the goals sadly...
Didcot 0-7 Reading - preseason game so doesn't really count.

I missed the Pompey 7-4, but there's probably a few more from the last 20 years or so I've missed off the list above. I know in the past there's been Doncaster 7-5 Reading, and I think Exeter 4-6 Reading?

Which high scoring games has anyone else seen? Criteria is that one team must have scored a minimum of 6 goals in the game.

Exeter away when we won 6-4. Ark Royal predicted the score on the way to the game
Doncaster 7-5
7-0 win v Barnsley
7-1 defeat at Chesterfield
6-1 defeat at home to palace. Hated that one. Went with my Dad who is a palace fan
5-2 defeat at Barnsley
Sure there are others I have seen including the West Ham anhialation

Barnsley 7-0 xmas 1979.

The season before I started going to Elm Park we beat Southport 8-0 in last game of season - 1969/70.

Reading 4-3 Oxford

La la la ROUGIER

We scored 5 if you include the Viveash OG, and pretty much 6 thanks to Phil Whitehead stopping the ball going out for a corner... Only to give it straight to an Oxford player

Anyone around in the Jack Mansell era will have seen us regularly score 6 and probably concede a couple, the occasional 7, and an 8-0 win against Southport.
Mind you, I am going back to the '60s.

Was at the Barnsley game - taunts directed towards Michael Parkinson who was there supporting the away team. Bizarrely, the Bristol Rovers game came only a week after we had beaten Wrexham 4-0 and started to look an OK bet for the play offs.

Oh yeah I remember Chesterfield game now - was the same season as the Barnsley 7-0 win - in fact only about 6 weeks before...

Don't remember that Burnley game - when was that?

Remember a 6-1 home win over Torquay with McGhee getting a couple not soon after joining as player manager.

My very first game was Reading v Barnsley, Dec 79. 7-0. We still havent matched or bettered that score line

How can anyone forget (of a certain age) the 6-2 defeat at Southport followed by a 8-0 win in the return to qualify us for the Watney cup back in the 70s

Walsall 6 Reading 0. 1st Feb 1986

The season we won the 1st 13 games on the trot. A record at the time.

All I remember was taking the piss out of boring Brummies in a local pub before the game and not going back afterwards!!

7-1 v Crawley (res game) 1990's
8 or 9 -0 v Woking (res game) 2000's

and of course, the 0-6 at Walsall and a lot of the other aforementioneds
