4-5-1 at City

by ddetisi » 17 Dec 2012 22:40

The change to 4-5-1 after the fourth goal made our midfield look less like a Sunday league team.
After the change it was 2-1, just a shame about the previous 4 goals.

Brian cannot justify Playing 4-4-2 at City . . . . Can he?

Ok you pick the side, Selection technicalities aside. I can't watch another 4-4-2 kamikaze mission to prove how little ol'reading can compete.

We can't compete. That's pretty clear. So why not play to the strengths of the players we have, not force them to play in the shadow of last year/coppells success.

McD said on Radio Berks that he switched it to 4-3-3 in the 2nd half tonight

As we don't have a fcuking midfield worth playing, how about:

======================== FLAPERICI ========================

CUMMINGS ===== MARIAPPA == GORKSS === PEARCE ===== SHOREY

========================== TABBY =========================

========================= GUTHRIE ========================

========================= ROBERTS ========================

================ LE FONDRE ======= POG ====================

5 at the back.
Tabb sat deep.
Guthrie ahead of Tabb trying to pick a pass or feed the three front men who will be a handful for a flat back four.
Roberts to flick the ball on to Alf and Pog.
Shorey and Cummings expected to support going forwards when possible.

It's long-ball porn for Brian!

In all honesty, a flat back 9 is needed at City.

You have to be joking with Legs and Pog? I'd definitely get HRK in there somehow

We did.

-------------------Federici-----------------
Cummings--Mariappa--Gorkss--Shorey
---------Leigertwood---McAnuff---------
Kebe--------------Tabb--------Hunt/HRK
-----------------Pog/ALF-----------------

Reckon we'll see Guthrie against Citeh - McD said he will play tomorrow in a friendly with a view to the weekend.

.....................Federici
..Cummings, Mariappa, Pearce, Shorey
..................Karacan, Tabb
Kebe...............McAnuff..............HRK
.......................Pog

Taylor, Gunter, Gorkss, Legs, McCleary, ALF, Hunt.

I can't see Guthrie having a way back and I'm not sure I'd really play him in the hole behind a striker even if he did. Maybe instead of Karacan as he and Tabb have always been like a pair of headless hoofing chickens when paired before. HRK has been really good in several games recently and McAnuff just isn't working, so preference to HRK and McAnuff to do a lot of the chasing off the ball from the front and a bit of link play, because I can't think of anyone else to put there with even the remotest bit of defensive quality (which McAnuff can show at times).

Of course it'll be nothing like that. Legs will start again. As will Gorkss.

Looked more like McAnuff was the advanced one tonight to me chilipepper.

Would be good to get Guthrie and Karacan back, reckon them two with Leigertwood is our best option in a 4-5-1 (seemed to work ok against Chelsea!) Can't stand McAnuff in the middle, and think Tabb is a bit limited. Think Leigertwood would benefit from having two decent midfielders alongside him.

Drop Jobi. That's the first step.

Drop Leigertwood, down a flight of stairs. That's the second step.

How legs of wood is still in that team is ridiculous. Did anyone hear Mcdermott say about guthrie playing in a reserve game tommorow but couldnt play tonight because of a 'slight injury'? Sounds fishy to me

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the fact that our two goals today were the first that we have scored as a result of a through ball down the middle all season. Surprisingly both came within 5 minutes of Brian switching to 4-5-1.

We should have been set up to play 4-5-1 all season, what did we do on the training pitch in the summer?

No doubt Brian would have learnt nothing again and continue to play 4-4-2 because he likes that formation.

This would be my team...

Federici

Gunter (how many goals have come down Cummings's side of the pitch?)
Pearce (c)
Mariappa/Gorkss (doesn't really matter, tbf)
Shorey

Harte (can tackle, can spray the ball out to the wingers)
Tabb
Guthrie

HRK
Le Fondre
Kebe
