SIGNED - Daniel Carriço

by SPARTA » 27 Dec 2012 15:57

^ Formerly TransferMarketFeed who have a decent record on transfers. Their new website - http://www.thefootballfamily.com/home/

Interesting one and on a free. Sounds a bit more likely than some of these rumours, and he was also linked with Fulham a while back, so us pinching their chief scout and then this might add up.

Daniel Carriço
Born: August 4, 1988 (age 24), Cascais
Height: 1.81m
Position: Central Defender

It seems Reading or Benfica are the two leading clubs in for him at the moment.

On a free? Yeah that's probably reliable then.

Wasn't he linked to Man City at some point?

So stay in Portugal or have a crack at the limelight of the Premier League. If this is true then it would mean Pearce was almost certainly off.

He was linked with Arsenal in the past. If the top clubs have lost interest then he can't have lived up to expectation. On a free is probably worth the risk though.

Afternoon all,

TheFootballFamily here,

Liasing with a Portuguese journalist on Twitter, he has mentioned we are interested in Carrico as stated in my tweet at the top of this page.

Will post an article on it later on! website isn't upto date due to the busy festive period!

Also had the news on Sunzu, but this seems to have cooled off with his African Nations Cup spot.

No news on Arshavin, those reporting it on Twitter aren't reliable enough. Also nothing further to add on Huddlestone and/or others.

Millwall are looking to sign Simon Church though according to a guy who has a few sources inside of Millwall. Also runs the website attheden.

Im sure we will be linked to many more players over the coming weeks!

The most likely scenario for Daniel Carrico is the output at zero cost to the Reading of England ...

A bit more about him:

Captain of Sporting Lisbon, can operate in a defensive midfield role, and has decent technique and distribution!

Sounds promising, but why would it be on a free?

Isn't this the website that has FL as one of their sources? They also blocked me on twitter after rubbishing one of their rumours

Fridays Legacy was part of the old website although is a contributor to the new website adhoc

Not heard anything more on this since I reported it earlier. Could have legs with our new head scout travelling around Europe.

My Portuguese 'source' tells me the deal is done.

He tells me he has been a fairly good centre back for them but nothing outstanding, said he has impressed most in a defensive midfield role.

Also described him as a 'born leader' on the pitch

My only other (serious) post on here was mcDermott signing a new contract when you all believed he was off to wolves. Lets see if I canals it 2/2

Good stuff, and when you say the deal is done, you mean to us?

If this is true then it is a good move, I am not doubting you SB but I have seen this page lie several times so I am a bit sceptical!
A leader is exactly what we need, I just hope he can speak good enough English to sort the rest of them out!

I know nothing about this player.

Is he any good and going to keep us up or will he just be warming his ar*e on the subs bench should we end up signing him?

Carrico in, Pearce out.

Carrico and Morrison as the centre-backs please. Makes losing Pearce that bit easier to take.

Daniel Carrico will be leaving Sporting this January as a free agent. I just read that he is being linked with a surprise move to Benfica (zerozero.pt). Now it does seem unlikely that Carrico would move to Sporting's eternal rival, but I'd be more than happy to have him play at the Estadio da Luz. He is a talented defender with plenty of big-game experience despite his young age. He would also add some versatility since he can also play as a defensive midfielder. I personally think he'd be a fantastic signing for Benfica, so let's hope the rumors are true!

As if he'd choose Benfica over Reading.
