Guthrie / Carrico / Akpan

by TBM » 26 Mar 2013 11:47

What a midfield that will be under Adkins next season.......they'll shine playing the football NA likes to adopt

Throw in a new left back and a new striker and we should be good to push for promotion

would like to see the likes of obita given a chance on the left next season as well with kebe on the right also would like to see what samual can do next season - we might not need another striker

agreed. not sure guthrie will be here still, id imagine him and pog will be sacrificed to reduce wages in line with income.
but we'll have cash to replace them. i see us with the basis of a very good champioship side already6. adkins will want to bring in a couple to make it more his team etc, and i can see us having an exciting season

Slow down a bit.
That's one player who looks as though he may not have settled in the south,
another player who is crocked and has played just half a game in England and
a player who has done one good pass since he joined us.

I like your optimism but let us see who Nigel thinks he would prefer to bring.

Guthrie/Carrico/L,wood/McAnuff are going to be the acid test.

For me as long as we keep Le Fondre, HRK, Mariappa and McCleary next year I will be happy!

Hunt, Roberts and log likely to leave this summer. Alfie might be bought too so we do need new strikers no matter what.

Guthrie just didn't like McD and what was being asked of him (hence him saying he was being asked to do something that wasn't his natural game)
Carrico will play a part and when fit can be a vital part
Akpan did a decent pass against Chelsea too remember - not just the Newcastle game, that you refer to

Agreed solid midfield that would be. Guthrie went to the championship with Newcastle now that bm is gone he might be willing to do it again.

No, he wont. Atkins will laugh at him.

Atkins can laugh at him if he wants im sure he only cares what Adkins thinks - plus i wouldn't be suprised if we see HRK in a strikers role next term

Well, let's hope Nige lets him do whatever he wants to then

I hope Guthrie gets a clean slate and sticks around next season. He must have something about him, as Newcastle fans didn't want to lose him. He could be key next season. As could Carrico IF he sticks around.

Or lets him get the ball from the back 4 and move it forward, rather than being told not to pass on the ground

Agreed - one of our most improved players this season and still improving. If he applies himself he could be a big asset and the part time bit part player that is Kebe may find he is surplus to requirements.

I think some people are:

- Underestimating how good Ledge and Karacan will be in the Championship
- Overestimating the ability of Carrico and Guthrie to tackle/be defensively sound

Carrico is a def.midfielder who covers centre-back. I would hazard a guess that he can tackle. As for Guthrie, you don't need a midfield full of defensive players, contrary to what Brian McDermott believes.

PS - Ledge was also erratic in the Championship. He's a confidence player. He's up, he's down. But still suitable next season - in moderation.

So who do people think will start our first game in the champ? What formation? This is if we go down of course, assuming they are fit.

for me i think we will start with

GK McCarthy
RB Gunter
CB Morrison
CB Marriapa (c)
LB New Signing
LW HRK
RW Kebe
CM Guthrie
CM Carrico
CM Legs
ST New Signing

Think Pearce will go as will Pog and jobi, think Guthrie and Carrico will stay

Marriapa as new club captain.

All in all doesn't look a bad championship side
