Would we have stayed up if Kebe had stayed fit?

by Archie's penalty » 12 Apr 2013 18:42

I think it's no surprise that our attacking threat has almost entirely disappeared since Kebe got injured. So simple question, could we have stayed up if Kebe had stayed fit?

Two seasons in the Prem with JK, two relegations

Apart from that, he's alright

Good question.

Undoubtedly he played a huge impact and was he fit yes I believe we'd be above the safety line right now.

He could have made a real difference. Remember many of our goals last season came on the counter-attack and from set pieces and Kebe gone we lacked the pace and foresight to make those happen in this season.

if he had played every game, would we have got at vleast 6 extra points this season and be in with a chance of staying up?
yes.
TBF its still possible he could come back for the last 5 games, & win them all single handedly

On his day he's by far our stand-out player

No, because he is massively overrated.

I will agree.

Kebe isn't consistent enough to be a 'great' player. Sometimes he is frustrating to watch, other times magical.

Overrated, yes.

I think with him we would be a lot better off, he gives us that extra edge. But then HRK wouldn't have played much and we wouldnt have seen him improve.

If he had stayed fit
If he had stayed consistent
If he was THAT good

He would not be a Reading player. Harsh but true.

There's plenty quite like Jimmy...

We'd have done better, but it wouldn't have addressed our complete inability to keep the ball, our utter lack of a midfield, or the glut of cheap goals we give away regularly.

Interesting response in the poll chaps. I don't think anyone can deny he's our most dangerous player, indeed he was the only player in our side that premiership teams
feared. Oh well.

Only if McDermott was still here........................................and rumour has it that some Russian owners are stupid enough not to make allowances for the loss of major players to injury when assessing their manager's performance.

I look forward to Adkins being judged by the same criteria.

Regardless of whether some see him as over rated, at this level we were a different team with Jimmy in the side, even when he was having an off day/not fully fit.

Fully fit he would have given us chances in 90% of the games. So possibly although as he spent half the games covering our woeful midfield probably not.
