Readings Championship Team

by Theroyalbox » 29 Apr 2013 16:42

To be honest I think next year we will do well... Play off place minimum but I have spoken to fans of many other championship clubs and they seem to think differently. They seem to think we will loose our whole team and end up like wolves. I don't believe we need to sell anyone as Anton gives the impression we are financially stable and if we keep this team that played on Saturday can it win the championship? I'd add a couple this is my championship team.

McCarthy

Gunter. Moro. Mapps. Kelly

Guthrie. Carrico.

G.Mac. HRK.
L.Mgugan (excuse spelling)
ALF

Subs: Akpan Taylor Roberts Macunuff Cummings

I honestly would like to see us keep pog and Guthrie...

McCarthy
Gunter Morrison, Mariappa new lb = not sure who
Guthrie Carrico
Kebe Alf McCleary
Pogrebnyak

Anderson, new cb for cover, Cummings, Karacan, HRK, Roberts, Rhodes or Austin

Would like us ti keep Akpan

Really not sure as i havent a clue will stay and go and who would want to come... Love to see a big striker come in.... I know they wouldnt appreciate the bench but they can all rotate with 2 up front or whatever.

And just drop McAnuff who has been our best player this season? (arguably)

McCarthy/Federici (the other will be sold)

Gunter/Kelly
Marriappa
Morrison/New CB
New LB

Guthrie
Karacan/Carrico/New CM

McAnuff/Kebe/McCleary
New AM
HRK/New LW

New CF

Subs: Andersen, Morrison/New CB, Gunter/Kelly, Karacan/Carrico, One of the wingers, Ikpeazu/Samuel, Hunt

Think Alfie and Pog will both go, and hopefully Adkins will be given the finances to bring in the 4/5 players he'll probably want. Also think one of our 4 wingers will leave - if we're playing 4231 we need someone who carries a bit more goal threat than any of the current bunch (HRK possibly excluded)

I think there could be a lot of changes this summer or relatively few. It just depends how much Adkins wants to stamp his authority on the squad.

Goalkeeper - Andersen likely to go as he needs first team football at his age. Almost certainly one of Fed and McCarthy will go - as both will rightly demand to be first choice. Will Taylor be offered another year? If not we might well end up with just one of the four left. This is probably the most concerning position in some ways with lots of uncertainty.

Full backs - Cummings is the forgotten man. Might not be PL but very adequate at Championship level - so my guess is we will have Gunter/Cummings at RB and Kelly at LB plus bring in one. Suspect Shorey and Harte will be off. Doubt we will want Joe Mills back as he has had an awful season on loan (but he is still under contract for another year).

Centre Back - Pearce will leave. Gorkks again is ok at Championship level (we might not be able to unload anyway and he has a year left) so we will potentially have Mariappa, Morrison and Gorkks - so we will need one more.

Wingers - I think all of McAnuff, McCleary, Kebe (as too injury prone to sell) and HRK will stay - so probably no additions.

Centre Mid - Legs still has a year and so might still have a role to play. Again very good at that level. We will keep Akpan, Carrico and I suspect Guthrie (if he is willing to stay) and probably Karacan. Tabb will go. These 5 are probably good enough at this level but will they be able to adapt to a passing style? If not Adkins might decide to ship a few out and see if he can replace them with passing players. This was our main problem area at PL level and needs a lot of thought. We certainly need a lot more in this position if we are promoted again.

Up front - Really have no idea. We might lose the lot apart from Blackman or perhaps we will risk keeping Pog at least until January (when we could sell him at a good price if he scores a few) and ALF. I think Pog and ALF up front in a 4-4-2 could work well at Championship level.

I think Hunt, Church and Roberts will be off.

Additionally we have a lot of promising youngsters whom we might start to blood at Championship level - Obita, D'Ath, Ikpeazu, Samuel etc.

---------------------------- McCarthy ----------------------------

Kelly ---------- Mariappa ---------- Morrison ---------- New LB

----------------------------- Carriço -----------------------------

McCleary ---- Guthrie ---- New CM/McAnuff playing CAM ---- HRK

------------------------- Pog/ALF/New CF -------------------------

Subs: Anderson, New CB, Akpan/Karacan, Kebe/New Winger, Pog/ALF/New CF

Of course could play 4-4-2, possible taking out McAnuff to accommodate another striker.
I think we'll definitely need a new CB, possibly another LB, possibly another CM if Lwood/Tabb are off, possible another winger if Kebe/HRK are sold, and a new striker.
3 to 4 signings and we could build a great team for the Championship.

Championship Starting XI

by Harrydog » 08 May 2013 11:26

I'm trying to piece together a realistic starting XI for next season, I'm assuming McCarthy and Carrico will both stay as both of them need game time before anyone in the Prem realistically would make a bid for them. Roberts will stay, and think Hunt will too, so I reckon we could start off looking like this.

McCarthy
Gunter , Morrison, Mariappa, Kelly
Carrico
McCleary, Guthrie, Karacan,
McAnuff
Roberts

To me that looks like a very strong team for that division. I think McCleary is rated by Adkins, and will probably be a more consistent starter than Kebe, given Jimmy is constantly injury prone. McAnuff behind the front man also seems a better position for Jobi.

I'd pretty much go for the team that started against Fulham. Would like to see a proper left back come in, and I think we could do with another central defender, as with Pearce going we look a little short. Would like another striker, as Roberts will struggle for fitness, Hunt & Church may leave, Pog possibly may go and ALF is best as an impact player.

Then it's just a case of replacing whoever goes.

Think we'd have some pretty great back up players in Carrico, Akpan, Kebe etc but obviously hard at this stage to know who will be here come August.

You don't think Adkins might make a signing or two then?

----------------------Goalkeeper---------------------
Right Back--Centre Back-Centre Back--Left Back
-----Central Midfielder----Central Midfielder------
---RW/Attacking Mid--CAM--LW/Attacking Mid---
-----------------------Striker---------------------------

Or a different formation consisting of 11 players that are either currently at the club or elsewhere.
