Do we need a CB who can pass the ball?

by FridaysGhost » 26 Aug 2013 21:47

For the Championship, we have good CB's for our Brian 4-4-2 team. Do we have good CB's for Adkins 4-5-1 passing team? So far it seriously does not look like it. We need strikers - yes, but do we need a fast ball-playing CB?

That is the sort of sensible question we all expect from you. Rhodes, as you know, may well have kept us in the Prem or would now fire us back into it. BUT WE DIDN@T BUY HIM WHEN WE HAD THE CHANCE! Which you are happy with? And NO Dimbo, he is not a CB.

No. The current crop are all easily good enough to play within Adkins system. Morrison will get there, but Pearce, Mariappa and Gorkss are all composed enough with the ball at their feet.

It's not the CB's it's the fact only Guthrie shows for the ball in that situation. Don't think Karacan has ever picked the ball off the back four.

No.
Simplistic and clearly not well thought out musings are not helpful in many ways. Comedic value comes to mind.

Like the wingers we have too many central defenders. Cant see Mariappa being happy on the bench. Was Pearce given assurances of being guaranteed a place in first team when he signed? Where's the plan? Definitely agree need someone with pace and passing ability in that position.

Agree with Royal91. For all of Karacan's huff and puff in chasing players down and winning the ball, he never looks comfortable once he's got it, and never offers himself up for it.

Don't get me wrong, he offers something to the team, and a midfield largely made up of flair players (Drenthe, Kebe, McCleary), couldn't operate on it's own...

Either way, I'm sure the stats say he makes plenty of successful short passes, but he rarely makes any incisive ones. I'm sure Adkins has recognised this which is probably why WIlliams is waiting in the wings.
