RFC games that have been abandoned

by leon » 31 Oct 2013 22:57

In honour of AE housewives favourite Green's titanic and much maligned - what's the latest an RFC game has kicked off? thread here's a question.

How many RFC games have you seen that have been abandoned mid game?

I can only recall Bury in the League cup (1998?)

In fact what about last minute cancellations?

Leicester at home was abandoned at half time about 10 years ago. They stuffed us 3-1 in the rescheduled game on Sidwell's home debut.

Was a cup game against Burnley also abandoned abut 5 years ago or was that just a very late postponement.

Also remember travelling up to Bramhall lane only to have the game postponed about 20 minutes before kickoff.

Sunderland last season - in pub 5 mins from ground, called off about 1:30

Doncaster season before (Feb 2012) - got halfway there before finding out it was off, some were already there

Bury at home in the Cup after 30 minutes 2-0 down.

It pi**sed down the game should never have started.

Not abandoned but called off when on route or at the ground.

Arrived at Watford for a Boxing Day fixture for the game to be called off due to a frozen pitch so we went to watch Brentford v Brighton.

On route to Palace for an evening game with the game was called off about 75 minutes before kick off .

Sunderland away last season. Walking to the ground to be told by some Macum's the game was off.

Leicester on New Year's Day. Was so hungover even getting into a car would have resulted in vomiting. Stayed home and listened on the radio. Punched the air when abandoned.

My train was late that day.

Got out of the station, last bus had gone from outside the guineas, so I went in for a pint, watched Stelling say it was abandoned, and got the train home.

csb and all that

Remember getting all the way (lol) to Luton many years back only to find it had be postponed. I think it was very early 00's. Anyone else remember? :?

Went to Luton on Boxing Day for a game that was called off - think it must have been mid-90s. Dad and I had gone there on the way to visit family nearby for Christmas, so had to spend the whole day with relatives rather than just a few hours

Was the Leicester one referred to earlier the New Years Day match at home?

A bloke I know from Bury had come down for this. His mate's car had the windows put through down the Oxford Road soemwhere whilst the game went on.. they got soaked in the ground, then got back to the car to find it vandalised and had to drive back to Bury in the pouring rain with no windows and glass all over the seats.

still makes me laugh..

Yep, remember that. It was great entertainment - I especially remember Martin Butler going in for a tackle and a tidal wave ensued that nearly engulfed the East Stand. It was at that point that me and many others around me figured we should probably get back to the car.

I tried to go to Huddersfield once, but got stuck in traffic and had to turn around. Never again.

Doncatser a few years ago was another which was postponed on the morning of the game, just as the train carrying a large group of Reading fans left Kings Cross. Think we drew the return game, and was our first dropped points during the winning run of 11/12.

Ended up going to see Sheffield Wednesday v Yeovil that day instead.

Took my then 6 / 7 year old son to the Leicester game that was abandoned on NYD.

When we got home he was still a little upset, so his Mum gave him a game of table football which he'd got for Christmas in an attempt to cheer him up whilst I settled down with a nice cup of tea to watch SSN.

After some 2-3 minutes I heard my son say "Yes, thats a f*****g goal" whereupon I sprayed out a gob full of tea I was mid drinking all over the carpet. His Mum then said that was a naughty word and where did he hear it, to which he responded, with the words "Dad" & "at football"

It wasn't a great start to the year.....
