Team for Bournemouth

by maffff » 04 Dec 2013 10:24

Since the predictions thread is already up.

Adkins hopes Williams will be fit. Hopefully fit enough to start rather than on the bench.

Keown picked up an injury training with the first team. He travelled to Blackburn so may well have been our defensive cover on the bench.

Injuries
Morrison - confirmed end of November out for a couple of weeks. No confirmation he is back in training yet.
Bridge - out until the new year
Baird - Injured pre- Blackburn. Out for a couple of weeks
Karacan - long term injury
Roberts - RIP?

For me

McCarthy
Gunter Pearce Gorkss Cummings
McCleary, Williams, Guthrie, Obita
Sharp Pog

Bench
Federici, Kelly, McAnuff, Drenthe, Blackman Le Fondre, Robson-Kanu

Cummings was decent, as he always is when he comes in at this level, can see him and Gunter being more to Adkins preference than the liability that is Stephen Kelly.
It was a bit harsh on Obita getting dropped for Charlton, but that was to cover the defensive situation. Jobi had a poor game and now Cummings has had a match to get himself up to speed perhaps we can integrate Obita back in. The thought of Ritchie up against a makeshift left back is pretty terrifying though.

Beyond that, same team. Push Kelly to the bench and Akpan can watch from the stands.

I think you've got it spot on. Cummings just needs a run as he seemed a bit too nervy to do anything with the ball but defended well

I expect:

McCarthy
Gunter, Pearce, Gorkss, Kelly
McCleary, Guthrie, Williams, Obita
Pog, Sharp

I'd prefer:

McCarthy
Gunter, Pearce, Gorkss*, Cummings
McCleary, Guthrie, Williams, McAnuff
Pog, Sharp

*please let Morro be fit.

Oh and call up for Tshibola in place of Akpan on the bench.

Home game, Bournemouth will score, we need to go full out attack and hope we are more clinical.

=============McCarthy==================

Gunter=====Pearce====Gorkss=========Cummings (purely for pace)

McCleary=======Guthrie===Williams======Obita

============Pog=======Sharp============

Fed, McAnuff, HRK, Drenthe, Le Fondre, Blackman, Kelly

Akpan not even good enough to be sat in the stands.

If Williams is injured I'd give Obita a chance in the middle. I personally think he's too lightweight, but he's says it's his preferred position and Adkins will take a lot of grief if he starts Akpan.

Kelly was awful last night. His clumsyness and lack of pace was frightening. I was convinced there was a penalty in it for Charlton, and he clipped the wingers heals at the end but the lad stayed on his feet. Cummings on the other hand was superb at left-back and should keep his place. He has pace and is far more reliable, and he gets forward to support the wingers.

McAnuff can also drop to the bench. He was poor last night. He isn't a starter any more, but useful as an impact sub.

----------------------------------- McCARTHY -----------------------------------

GUNTER ----------- GORKSS ------------------- PEARCE --------- CUMMINGS

McCLEARY ------------ GUTHRIE ---------- AKPAN -------------------- OBITA

---------------------- SHARP -----------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------- POG --------------------------

Jake Taylor on the bench with Williams nobbled, again.

Obita can only play in the middle if we play 451/433. Which i dont think we will as Adkins prefers 442 at home.

Hence the lightweight comment, but with Leigertwood, Karacan, Baird and Williams injured it's either Obita, Akpan or McAnuff. He wants to play there, so I'd give him a shot over the other two.

They definately said out for the rest of the year, not season. If it was the season I'm pretty sure we would have seen someone come in on loan.

Sharp deserves to play again. But would prefer us to use 451/433. Adkins shooting himself in the foot when he wants us to play out from the back but uses a formation that encourages us to play the Brian way.

Magic Hat He wants to play in the middle, I'd give him the opportunity to start to prove himself.

He ovbiously means in a 5 man midfield. Like when we won at Derby.

I liked it when we played three wingers at the start of the season.

Federici

Two of Gunter/Cummings/Kelly Pearce Gorkss

Guthrie Williams

Obita McAnuff McCleary

Sharp
