Brian or Nigel

by marcusopp » 27 Dec 2013 16:50

With painfully poor performances, a terrible sun tan and a much better squad than McD had throughout his reign it's made me reflect on the good times under McDermott.
We played a direct style because that's what we had the playing staff to do. But under McD, 1 nil down with 5 minutes to go, you knew there was going to be a big finish and never felt like we were out of it (in the Championship at least).
The squad was a proper squad, with no (apparent) egos 'til Pog and Guthrie arrived.
And we had Kebe!

Brian wasn't given enough time - he should never have been sacked.
Sack Adkins - he's had enough time.

Does that cover it?

Yes! I like your point about time. The amount of time afforded to a manager varies on the circumstances. McD won multiple manager of the month awards in the championship, then won one in the premiership, then got sacked a month later after losing to spurs and arsenal.
Agent orange bores the life out of us with 'attractive football' and still keeps a job. I'll bet he gets paid more than Brian did too. The most excitment i've had this season was when i spilt hot tea over my crotch during the Brighton game!

?
Nigel has a worse squad than we have had since Rodgers tried to get by with youth players. Nigel has nobody half as good as Kebe, Sigurdson, Long, a young McAnuff or a fit Roberts.

Brian, anyway.

FFS! Seriously, another thread on this subject?

People seem to forget the ugly effective long-ball game we played under McDermott, and the fact we weren't this high in the table the season he got us promoted...

Adkins has had a hell of a lot to deal with off the field, not forgetting he didn't get the investment that was promised to him in the summer, and the financial and ownership issues going on behind the scenes all season - yet we still find ourselves 8th at this stage with what is mostly McDermott's long-ball team; I'd argue Adkins is doing a good job considering! Yes the football is shit at the moment; it's ugly, call it what you like, but it's still got us into a better position than McDermott did the year we went up; so how about we get behind the manager and stop crying over someone who left the club 8 months ago. Get a life, please!

This season isn't lost. Far far from it in fact, but it will be if you keep crying over McDermott and booing the current and more than qualified replacement who is doing his utmost "to keep the team going" [quote Nigel Adkins yesterday] at the moment.

If you give Adkins time and a couple of transfer windows (with backing), then we will see the benefit next season.

Can this thread accidentally fall into the bin?

Brian should never have been sacked, the amount of "time" he had is irrelevant. If you want to talk about something relevant then he wasn't given enough money, by an owner who we now know didn't have any, in order to get a team ready for the PL.

Adkins doesn't have the right personality to fit the club and shouldn't have been brought in in the first place.

Jesus wept!! Yet ANOTHER thread on this subject? Really?

I predict that all the posters who on the previous threads on this subject have made their positions clear, will do so again.

I agree that Brian should never have been sacked. When he was ousted we were basically guaranteed to go down, why not leave him in charge with a squad he knows and a proven track record in the championship.

Exactly.
I remember talking to my mate about it after Brian was sacked. He said "anyone but Nigel Adkins".
Brian was a victim of his own success. Every transfer window we lost our best players, that hasn't happened to Orange yet, he's actually been allowed to add players.

Oh FFS. What is the fcuking point of this thread?

Brian is gone & he isn't coming back. Nigel is now our manager.

And supposing we get rid of him then what exactly? Who is out there that can do better?!

I do find it funny that when there was a poll on people's expectations for this season most 'accepted' on here that they'll be happy enough with an inconsistent season, perhaps flirting with the play-offs, but overall understanding this would be a transition season.

Yet when it comes to the crunch & it is playing out that way, most of those people are a bunch of whining pussies who now want him out as they don't have the stomach for it.

Man the fcuk up & get behind them. Lets see what he can do given a couple of transfer windows.

Oh and perhaps if people hadn't booed at matches etc during Brian's reign, he might not have got the boot. Reap what you sow.

McGhee shouldn't have got a job here then? Rodgers shouldn't have got a job here then? PARDEW really shouldn't have got a job here then.

Two of those are responsible for getting us where we are today. The other now manages one of the favourites to win the Premier League this season, and England's most successful club.

Brian could relate to the fans, not only was he a decent manager (as proven by Leeds being ahead of us in the table no less) but the fans loved him.

Those who wanted him sacked last season have been taught a lesson, and we're laughing because they have been proved WRONG.

Stop moaning about the thread. You are not obligated to read and respond if it doesn't interest you.

Voted Brian.

Still 'support' the team at games, but just think BM would have done a better job in the current situation.
