Hell a real sign of age, I remember most of those since the Grimsby 6-0. The Friday night demolition of Hartlepool was Brian Cloughs heaviest managerial defeat if I am not mistaken ? with Peter Sylvester netting 4 from what I recall ?

Dick Habbin's hairdo I remember a 7-0 at EP against Barnsley around Christmas time.....

Yep - my first ever game. 29th Dec 1979, remember it well. Was ecstatic to finally see it equalled, and then Ngog went and oxf*rd it up.

Drew_3 I know some score lines have been mentioned but does anyone know the details of the LAST time we scored 7 in a match?

Full details of all games where we have achieved a GD of 6 or more in a game:

Then of course there is our actual record win of 11-0 over Chesham Generals in 1901 (plus some other big wins in competitive games around that era).

I've never really been sure why that 11-0 win gets ignored - it was in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup, which was the equivalent of about Round 1 or 2 today. There were only two Football League divisions at the time, but as a Southern League team Reading were effectively in the third tier. Our opponents were probably the equivalent of Conference South. They eventually merged with another Chesham team to form Chesham United.

Our record defeat is a game involving an amateur side against a team from the top division, so why doesn't the 1901 match count as our record victory?

PS It is of course solely Nigel Adkins' fault that we were unable to beat the shocking and completely disinterested Bolton by 12-0 to avoid all future arguments. He should go quietly now.

Does anyone know our record win in any match, including friendlies? I saw a 10-1 in Holland, and I know we did better in Sweden a few years ago.

Going to the club as a whole, our youth team won an FA Youth Cup tie away to Weymouth 15-0 about 20 years ago.

Not recording the 11-0 win as our record win does seem completely stupid. It's would be interesting to know why the club doesn't count it.

kwik-silva Tell me you don't actually keep that whole db in a spreadsheet?

No, MSAccess tables and queries. Only back to 1920 so far, but intend going back to 1871 once all line-ups have been found!

Steven Bowyer very kindly send me a copy of his MSExcel database many moons ago, 1998 I think, and whilst I haven't got round to checking it yet, the snapshot below is all the non-War games where we had a GD of 8 or more.

Don;t think the friendly v Reading Wednesday League will ever make it into the official; records, but would have been a blast to attend!

I have lost touch with Steven over the years, so if anyone knows his whereabouts, so drop me a line.
