Why switch him to play there, disrupting his partnership with Obita and McCleary's with Gunter?!

Are the Under 21 team playing on Wednesday? If so I think you've gone over your over-age player limit there Mr 247.

That's not a very nice thing to say about Sheffield Wednesday.

Same team. Akpan says he should be OK, was only a knock. If Akpan is out then Taylor to start. He's much better suited to this style than Guthrie who will only slow it down.

Worth remembering Guthrie played 38 times for Newcastle when they got promoted from the Championship with 102 points. Their top scorers were Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan, with 17 apiece, and their top assister was Guthrie with 13. So this recently-fashionable view that Guthrie slows down the play and is only suitable for a short-passing side might not be the whole truth.

I like Guthrie, but if he plays then he must be told to be more urgent, play higher up the field, and stop pausing and allowing the moment to pass! Then, and only then, will be an asset to this team. Otherwise he is having the reverse effect and is actually a hindrance. We have found a style that works for us, now he needs to fit in to it.

Guthrie played very well at the start of the season and dictated the pace well. Anyone who thinks we'll play slow and ineffectual football with him in the side obviously wasn't present at our first game against Watford.

His form dipped when the entire team started struggling and couldn't find space or pick a pass. That meant his options were worse and he dropped deeper to pick up the ball. Now we have a balanced team playing reasonably well he should be able to slot back in and play much better again. However, he'll need to be fully fit and prove he deserves his place more than one of the encumbants.

Taylor seems to have done alright, but putting him in instead of a fit Guthrie would be a big stretch. If Akpan is fit then he'll probably keep his place allowing Guthrie to build up his match fitness from the bench.

Not much point in match XI threads for a winning side. No change unless it's forced.
